Author bio:
I am a freelance writer and state government employee. Although my mother prayed I would major in English, I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and Environmental Geosciences from the College of Charleston in 2003. My research experience includes volcanic hazards, remote sensing, and low-temperature geochemistry. I use that expertise as the Feature Writer for the Geography section of Suite101.com.
I have been writing since childhood and am the recipient of the South Carolina Lieutenant Governor's Writing Award, The Learning Collaborative Best Writer Award, and Spring Valley High School English Department Writing Award. I served as a Writing Lab Consultant at the College of Charleston for three years, tutoring students in grammar, organization, and effective writing.
At home in Columbia, South Carolina, I volunteer with several community organizations and enjoy escaping to the Palmetto State's beaches and mountains on the weekends.
