Synopsis

Twelve-year-old Violet and her younger sister, June, are sent to stay at their Crazy Aunt Cora's house for the summer. While exploring in the woods, Violet finds The Door. Through it, she enters a magical world filled with fae and satyrs and goblins. But when June is kidnapped by the Fae, Violet suddenly sees the dark reality of the world behind The Door. She must find courage she never knew she had to rescue her sister and close The Door forever.

The premise of this novel is pretty standard, but I hope to take inspiration from Neil Gaiman, Guillermo del Toro and Lemony Snicket to create a dark fantasy for young adults. I want this novel to be drawn from the darker faerie tales, where mermaids draw you in to drown you and Fae are wild, unpredictable, terrifying creatures.

Excerpt

The Door had no beginning and no end. It just was.

It had always been there, standing amongst the trees. Thee was no record of anyone building it. No one who ever owned the property had tried to tear it down. Most people ignored it, avoided it, even. Some never even knew it was there.

No one ever opened it.
