Author bio:

I've been here quite a while, haven't won the past couple of years due to some family issues, am looking forward to winning this year!

I'm currently serving in the USAF, and am finding that a lot of who I am is now wrapped up in being identified with this service. I used to be a bit of a loafer, just trying to enjoy life as much as possible. I now have a sense of purpose and several goals in mind, one of which is to actually start and finish a novel this November, instead of starting one and having 50k left to go at the end of the month.

This year's novel is going to be a bit different this year. Instead of my usual 18th-century naval historical novel of hopeful awesomeness, I'm trying a bit of alternate historical fiction. My boyfriend and I also decided to try the same story plot, just for the fun of seeing how different they each turn out. This year's novel isn't meant as much of a greatly serious project, just as an attempt to see if I still have the ability and drive to write, both of which have appeared to be lacking since I left for basic training.

Oddly, it feels like my first NaNoWriMo, which I considered a test to determine if I was going to continue writing, or stop altogether. I'm glad I won then, or else I never would have met one of my very very best friends in the forums a couple months later, and may never have joined the military. I will win again this year. Writing has meant too much to me to give it up now.

Good luck to everyone!
