I like mainstream and literary fiction (especially with historical settings), biography, history and religious books most of all. My writing reflects my interests -- historical fiction and alternate history on the border between mainstream and literary fiction that often deals with political and religious topics from a leftish yet orthodox Catholic point of view.
My 2009 NaNo was a biographical novel about the marriage of the French-born Hollywood star Charles Boyer and British actress Pat Paterson, set from the 1930s to the 1970s: I managed to squeak out a win at the last minute, although I never finished it. In 2010, I wrote a roman à clef, set from the 1950s to the 2020s, about a boy who grows up to become a British prime minister who brings his country into a controversial war: again, I squeaked out a last-minute win, but did not finish it. In 2011, I wrote an alternate history/political romantic thriller, set in Paris in 1953. I won by finishing the first draft in the last moments of NaNo, and am working on completing a second draft. I work so hard during NaNo to win and then am usually too tired to do any writing or revising in December. Later on, I pick at my novels, but it is usually hard to regain momentum until summer, when I am beginning to come up with another plot bunny for the next NaNo. In 2012, this is not proving to be the case, as I have been writing regularly and have a plot bunny that I am developing for the next Camp NaNo.
In August 2012, I participated in Camp NaNo, but only eked out 10K words: I am revisiting the plotline that I wrote for August Camp and starting afresh for this year's NaNo.
