Colm Cohen is an average high school English teacher. He married his high school sweetheart, does his job well, and nothing too traumatic has ever happened to him. Then, one fall day, one of his students, Layla Alperin, disappears, and about a week later, Colm and his group of volunteers find her beaten, raped, and murdered body. After seeing her body, Colm becomes obsessed with finding her murderer and thinks of almost nothing else. Eventually joining forces with a mysterious prostitute named Cherry, one of the last people to see Layla alive, Colm digs deeper into Layla's life, Cherry's world, a killer's mind, and his own memory.
