Synopsis
Aedra Coyle is a fifteen year old Winged girl who loves to practice magic and learn new spells. But when a new law is passed prohibiting magic in Eastern Empyrean, she is led by a strange man who wants a "bodyguard who can defend him from magic attacks" to a hidden magic academy, where she has to deal with the constant threat of discovery. The law passed states that "all individuals who are found to have been practicing magic are to be executed", and when a shocking discovery befalls Aedra, she ends up having to fight for the two sides of the government and the academy, neither of which she really believes in.
Excerpt
Story of Aedra's childhood:
My father died in the wars before I was born, when they were still in the beginning phase, and my mother died in childbirth. As a baby, I grew up in the Eastern Temple of Commissioner Brooke Fable the Third, until I was seven. Then - being half of full-age - I was deemed capable of living on my own. Or, at least, deemed to much of an expense for the Temple to afford. I was given a bow and a few months' basic rations, and was told to be off. After wandering aimlessly for weeks on end, starving while trying to live off rations and the rare wild bird, I found Breccan and his mother, who you may have seen at that inn back there in Haseltine. They took me in, and I began to think of them as a sort of makeshift family that I could talk to and learn from when I needed. After five years, however, he reached full-age, and I was still twelve. He went off and started a business, that inn, and I worked as a bartender there for two years. That was until I reached full age, where it would no longer be appropriate to live there for free. For the past year, I've lived on my own, wandering, as I did those few weeks when I was seven, and occasionally coming back to visit Breccan when I was feeling bad.
