Excerpt

Dear Savas,

Oh, for heavens sake! Why are you going to stay all the way out in San Francisco when you can just come here? Mama says she's more than happy to fix up the spare bedroom for you and I can't imagine the Academy food is gonna be any better than mama's.  Lord, I will come and get you myself if I have to. Why didn't you just ask if you could stay with us? It's no bother, Savas. You should know that. Besides, I don't think you've ever been here for Christmas and Bill and Lenny invited us all over for Chanukah. I'm sure they wouldn't mind having you over, too. You have not lived until you've had Mrs. Kaplanski's latkes. I swear she puts some kind of addictive substance in them and because you can't get enough of them. They are so good, you don't even know. If I've half-considered converting just because the food is so good, but I think it's probably the most logical thing to do to just go over to their house and whenever they're having a holiday.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Culture office. I think they're probably just excited because they've never had a Vulcan student before and they want to help. That's all that is, more'n likely. They just want to help and they don't know that the best way to help is just to leave you be. Mama and Lawrence says we can meet you at the spaceport since by then it'll be winter holidays. She also told me to ask you what you wanted for Christmas. I tried to tell her you don't celebrate Christmas, but she didn't want you to feel left out or anything. You know how mama is. She tries a little to hard. I know I've tried to explain Christmas to you before, but you're going to have to just come and experience it to really get it. I'm pretty sure. Knowing you, though, you'll just have a million more questions than you did before, but you have to come in the interest of experiencing human culture anyway.

In other news, Troy and Luanne are back together. I'd say she's only dating him to get help on her homework, but she ain't doing too well from what I hear. Whatever. I've got midterms to study for and there's supposed to be a college tour this weekend. I don't know how I'm going to do that and all the other stuff, too. I don't know what I want to do with myself besides go to Medical school and learn Vulcan medicine. Daddy says nobody wants to study Vulcan medicine because it's so much harder than basically every other humanoid species and nobody wants Vulcans for patients, but that's what I want to do.

[automatically translated from Vulcan] Mother expresses her greetings to you.

Live long and prosper,

Oh! and Happy Thanksgiving!
