Author bio:
Call me Emily.
I have seven brothers and sisters, six of whom are married, and eleven nieces and nephews. I've been writing novels since the age of 16. My first novel was historical fiction, about the Mormon pioneers; but these days, my favorite genre is fantasy.
I am a graduate of Southern Virginia University, where I took a class on novel writing from Orson Scott Card. This is one of my favorite web sites. In fact, I'm on here so much that I'm now the moderator of the largest genre forum.
NaNoWriMo novels:
2004: "The Sword and the Medallion." Can I write a novel in a month? Yes, yes, I can.
2005: "The One-Winged Dragon." This was written by the seat of my pants; even now, I wonder how I ended up with winged people and that annoying minstrel. It's probably my second-worse piece of writing; the worst was written earlier that year when I followed the outline to the letter.
2006: "The Silver Dagger." Even though I had a part-time job and many college classes, I still won. And it's probably one of my best NaNo novels.
2007: "A Battle of Wits." The major conflict included a food fight in the royal banquet hall.
2008: "Spies and Sorcery." The entire story takes place in one night.
2009: "White Mist " A villain was the main character. I don't like her at all. I reached 50k by killing everyone. This is my third worst piece of writing. I have since completely changed this particular villain's story.
2010: "The Elfmarked." I started this story seven years earlier (and I'm still working on it). I was a Rebel -- kind of.
2010: "A Major Case of the Fridays." Feeling guilty about my Rebellion (and having half a month to go), I wrote a comedy. So what does when the staff of OLL goes to the bakery? The question was posed on Facebook the June before, and I got 50k out of it. The story also became a musical during the 2011 Screnzy.
2011: "Out Wit." This one was written in first-person, which was different for me, but since the main character is a double-crossing, cross-dressing double agent, it just worked better in first-person.
