The Larking is a somewhat introverted species and thus seems to be rarer than it actually is. Larkings associate with others of its kind, socializing in various atmospheres similar to other species, such as the better known Social Butterfly. However, the Larking is quiet in nature, appearing shy at a glance, and thus does not stand out in public spaces.

Larkings favorite spaces to socialize are in each others' homes, where they engage in such activities as: video gaming, writing, studying (for the Larking who is still attaining an education), and the more vague term of "hanging out," which thus far seems to have not solid definition.

Larkings are writers at soul, and specialize in writing the rather narrow genre that they have titled "realistic contemporary noir fantasy." The Larking loves to write and is typically bursting with a multitude of ideas at any given time, but is also known to be faineant. Larkings are also industrious works and take pride in their occupation, often working long hours, and thus rarely have the chance to write as much as they desire.

However, the Larking is also known to participate in the not well known event titled "NaNoWriMo" (National Novel Writing Month) every November. During this period, the Larking not only manages to make time for writing available in its schedule, but also has less of a tendency toward faineance. Like much of the Larking, this is a remarkable and so far unexplainable aspect of the species.
