Excerpt
"Daniel, where did all that powdered sugar come from?" Sandra wiped her son's shirt and watched the fine powder drift to the floor.
"Miss Lynn gave them to me."
"gave what?" Sandra watched as Daniel pulled a small bag of little powdered sugar covered cookies out of his pants pocket.
"They are super yummy mom." He held out his hand and offered her a cookie. "Short bread with powdered sugar!" The dime like cookies were still warm and Sandra ate it quickly.
"I feel a little ill..."
"Sometimes that happens. Mrs. Lynn says you've got to eat them slow!" Sandra's eyes blur and she slides to the floor.
"Momma..." Daniel got close to Sandra holding her face in his hands.
"I am just going to lay... lay..."
"MOM!" Daniel shrieked and jumped up. "Lissy!" After a quick moment, Lissy ran, chest heaving, into the kitchen. Daniel pointed towards Sandra on the floor and watched his sister sigh and place her hands on her hips.
"You shared Mrs. Lynn's treats didn't you..."
"Yes! But --"
"Ugh! Listen to the rules for once!"
"But!"
"We can't tell anyone abut her. Remember? She cannot be seen!" Lillian Isabella grabbed a chair cushion and put it under her mothers head. "Now, lets go see Mrs. Lynn and fix mom up."
"Bye mom." Daniel whispered to his unconscious mother "Mrs. Lynn is mag--"
"Daniel!" He jumped and scurried off towards Lissy who was already stomping out the front door leaving Sandra alone and unconscious on the kitchen floor.
