Mattie tries to order her events. Instead of just writing out the story, she is giving snippets while being interrupted by her Lord. Part blog, part memory, all annoyingly dangerous.

I came in and they were already seated. They all sat in neat rows staring straight ahead, looking at nothing. At first I thought they were manikins or statues, but I looked at one for a moment and I just knew they were alive. There were various little tiny things that gave it away, or perhaps it was because they were technically by prey so I was able to discern the lifeblood sluggishly running below the surface. The room was large and bare, the walls off white, the lighting was office fluorescence and the chairs were all identically blue and rickety looking. They just sat there. No single age more present than the others. Everyone from children though great great grandparents. They sat in their Sunday best, as my generation would've called it. Feet together, hands calmly on top of each leg, shoulders straight and face and eyes forward. I waved my hand in front of a child's face. There was a slight flicker, but nothing more. No reaction no life other than technical there. I didn't understand, where was I? I walked down the aisle of the room. It wasn't huge, but it wasn't small either. I began counting. there were rows of twenty with larger walking aisles between. Each row held 18 seats and each seat was filled with these nameless oddly blank humans. I closed my eyes and imagined myself viewing the scene from above and was reminded of neatly tilled crops on my Uncle's farm. These were human crops. Each barely breathing and just waiting for their reaping.
