Brian Parker is a twice-graduated University of Maine Black Bear, earning a B.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Writing in 2006 and a M.A. in English in 2008.
His undergraduate thesis, titled "My Nation", was 72,759 words and 281 pages (excluding prologue and afterword text), while his graduate thesis "The Sum of Our Parts" came in at a much lighter 30.809 words and 107 pages. Each was written over the course of an entire academic year, so this will be his first experience of shooting for 50,000 words within a tight deadline.
Brian currently works as an Adjunct Instructor of English at Husson University in Bangor, Maine, and writes for two online blogs: "The Groom's Take" on Blogger, a chronicle of his adventures in planning his upcoming October 2010 wedding, and "Brian's NFL Pick 'Em" on WordPress, a blog about the nuance and research involved in selecting the winners of each week's NFL games.
