Synopsis
Marilyn Chelsea Savage (Chelsea) tries to live her life as a normal teenager. Her family, however, is far from normal. They're lycans, better known as werewolves. But Chelsea isn't, she's a genetic anomoly among her people known as The Beacon. Every so often a Beacon is born into a pack, they are highly revered. In the past, the Beacon helped the pack fit into human society. Nowadays that isn't strictly necessary, packs are much more civilized and able to function in the human world. Her kind are still revered and viewed as a blessing to the pack.
Chelsea has 3 siblings--one older brother serving in the Marine Corp and 2 younger siblings, age 11--twins, boy and girl.
Chelsea's BFF is Audrey Cohen. Audrey's dad is an attorney for the pack, as well as for Savage Industries, the corporation Chelsea's great-grandfather started and her father runs today. Audrey dresses much like Fran Fine from The Nanny.
Chelsea has been bullied since childhood by another pack member, Reardon Banner. Reardon's father aspires to be pack leader but won't outright challenge Chelsea's father for the position.
Chelsea has a crush on the new guy Tyler Madison. Tyler has it all--looks, brains and athletic ability. He and Reardon are the top athletes in the school but they don't hang out and don't appear to be friends. In reality, Tyler is a fledgling vampire. Reardon's father has engaged with a nearby nest to oust the Savage's and take over the pack. One way to do this is to lose their daughter and the Beacon, which will shake the pack's faith in the pack leader. Chelsea never believes Tyler would be interested in her, but there he is, courting her.
Another new family has also moved to town, a lone wolf with his human wife (a doctor) and identical twin sons, Ryder and Kane. Their daughter is in college. The lone wolf is applying for pack admission, 2 of his children can shift and he wants them to understand what belonging to a pack means, in case they want to be a part of that in the future. One of the twins is interested in Chelsea, but she rebuffs him. She's not interested in being involved with a boy from the pack, and now she has Tyler. Ryder, who doesn't shift, starts dating Audrey. Kane comes along to hang out when Audrey and Ryder are with Chelsea and Tyler. Tyler once brings along a date for Kane. She disappears, during the date, he said she went home. Now Chelsea is convinced he is a serial killer. In the end, she attends a huge party, where Tyler and the Nest are supposed to turn Chelsea and weaken the standing of the Savage in the pack. Ryder and Kane saved the day. Chelsea attended the party alone because of Audrey's disapproval of her sneaking off to this party to be with Tyler. Chelsea's little brother calls Audrey when he sees she's gone so she and the boys go to the party.
