Synopsis
'The nightjar churs like a spinning wheel when the sun rises and falls,' this is the story of woman's self discovery spanning 3 generations. A story about Irish women, their relationships and their search for identity in a suffocating rural community where the youth have emigrated and the future is bleak. Giving up her only chances of success to look after her dying aunt, Ethel drops out of university after only one year. Following her aunts death she planned to return to education, to make a life for herself, but a new presence tempts her to stay. She abandons her education, inviting the stranger into her life, a decision that leads to a suspicious death. A decision she, her mother and eventually her daughter, deeply regret.
