Jack became aware of something tromping through the woods’ understory. “What’s that? Deer?”

“Horse.”

“Horse?”

“Our transportation.” Jack peered into the dim forest, in the direction of the noise. “It happens that the equine Eidolon lives around here.”

“Hell of a coincidence,” Jack noted, sarcasm filling his voice.

“Not really. Events are converging in this area.” Jack saw movement, now, white patches in the shadows. Soon, the white patches were joined by brown. Or, he realized, sorrel.

The horse burst out of the forest and whinnied. “Greetings, human and cat! I am… Magnificent Stallion!”

“You’re a gelding,” Ghost corrected.

“Shut up!” demanded Magnificent Stallion.

“And your name is Daisy, because your caretaker is a 14 year old girl.”

“Shut UP, cat!”

“Um… this is our transportation?” Jack asked the cat.

“It’s okay, Daisy. I’m a gelding too.” Ghost glared at Jack.

“That again?” Jack pulled his hands into his borrowed sweatshirt. “Hey, if it helps, I’m not planning on having kids, either.”

“Fuck you,” said the horse and cat in chorus.

“I’m guessing you can’t,” muttered Jack.

“I heard that!” said Daisy.

“Whatever. Ghost, I can’t ride a horse! I never learned how. Besides, no saddle.”

“Oh, don’t worry about that. He’s very gentle,” said Ghost, then added in a low voice, “now.”

“I can turn around if you’re going to keep giving me shit,” said Daisy, flicking his brown tail.
