Excerpt
A siren sounded off in the distance, more cars whizzed by on their electric drives. A few people walked along the sidewalk. The Listeners buzzed far overhead, above the buildings. Their slow drone drowned out by the noises at street level, but that wouldn't stop the high powered microphones set within their orbed bodies from picking up any sound they decided to focus on. The controllers behind the Listeners only had to push a little button to centre in on any happless individual or group they chose. They could pick up the slightest vibrations coming off of window panes. The Listeners were probably the cause of the most fear these days, because anything that was said by anyone could potentially be overheard by these floating orbs of ears.
