I've been writing stories since I was a little kid. People told me I had a great narrative voice. But that's not why I kept it up. The secret reason why I write is that it makes me feel powerful. Within my stories, I am the one true goddess. It's funny I should say that because I'm agnostic.
I've been doing NaNo for four years, since 2008. The first three years, I wrote a series called Stray Kingdom. I'm posting chapters weekly here: http://www.fictionpress.com/s/3109223/1/Stray-Kingdom
This is the basic setup:
For the researchers in an advanced DNA lab, the birth of genetically altered puppies and kittens was a joyous occasion. But for their prototype dog Rex, it was the last straw. After years as a test subject, Rex escaped from the lab, taking the special little ones with him. Engineered to be super-intelligent, they secretly found a place for themselves in a run down city, stealing and scavenging to make ends meet. Over the years, the family has made a home and a life in the streets and back allies. Underneath the hustle and bustle of the human world, there's nothing they won't do to take care of each other.
Three years after the escape from the lab, Rex's family is divided and facing a crisis like nothing they've ever seen before. Genius cat Plague is plotting something that could destroy everything they've worked for and put all their lives in danger. The strays will have to summon all their strength to protect the little world they struggled to build.
The growing family has lived peacefully for almost a year. But a city crackdown on stray animals has family patriarch Rex worried. When he begins to have dreams about his early puppyhood, he recovers a shocking memory. He must lead his family back to the lab to find someone they left behind. And this dangerous mission will reveal far more than anyone expected.
Three years have passed since the strays made their second escape from the lab, and the family has doubled in size. Now Rex seems to be on his last legs, and heroic troublemaker cat Parka is poised to take over as leader. But when their creator, head geneticist Dr. K locates their home, the family's freedom is threatened once again. And it may be up to old Rex to save them all one last time.
