Author bio:
I've had a series of light-hearted mysteries starring a pot-bellied pig in mind for about ten years. I've done a lot of outlines, plot maps, character sketches etc, but until November 1st of 2012 had never written a single word of the novels themselves. I discovered NaNoWriMo four years ago, and intended to participate that year, but my computer went on the fritz. I finally replaced it in 2010, but life took over and NaNoWriMo came and went without me. In the summer of 2011 started prepping for November, and when I started doing research I realized that my idea was dumb, I had no real plot, and I might as well face the fact that I was never going to write it.
I was at peace with that, and figured that now I could get on with my life without feeling guilty for not writing novels. I put all thoughts of novel writing and NaNoWriMo out of my mind, and was very happy. Then on Halloween evening of 2011, I stopped by my library and saw a flyer advertising NaNoWriMo,. And I thought, "Tomorrow is November 1st, I have the next two days off, what the heck. Let's see how far I can get."
I didn't get finished until December 15. But the idea worked, the plot came together, and lo and behold, I wrote it!
I'm now busy with the editing, and looking forward to starting the next book of the series (This Little Piggy Went to Market) November of 2012.
