“I knew this day would come. You want to get rid of those who know too much.” she said softly. The guy who spoke stepped forward and pulled out a pair of silver handcuffs.
“If you knew this would happen then why did you try to pollute a young mind?” he asked, yanking her roughly by her upper arm. She gave a soft chuckle and glanced up towards the man standing to her right.
“Because it’s people like you who will follow them blindly until the end. And in all honesty, you have no idea how
things used to be. Just like everyone else in this society who has placed their blind trust in the Group are the sheep led to slaughter. There will be blood shed, but whose? And, when the time comes, what side will you eventually fight for?” she asked, before holding her chin up in defiance and spitting directly into his face.
I gave a silent gasp as the man’s hand came down hard across my mother’s cheek. I bit my lips tightly as I saw her eyes bounce back in my direction and I could hear her silent plea to me to stay hidden and quiet until they left.
“We are under oath to notify you that you are being taken away to be euthanized. The penalty for attempting to corrupt and rebel against the Group and Society is death.” he said before dragging my mother out behind them.
“Remember that when you defy them, you will die.” she said aloud as she disappeared into the night. And her warning rang loudly in my tiny ears.
Like sheep, we are led straight to the slaughterhouse.
