Validations online
The website is now validating novels—confirming your word count so you can get your official winner's bar!
To validate, simply go to Edit Novel Info and select “I am ready to validate my novel.” Copy and paste all 50,000-plus words into the validator box and hit submit!
Note, different word processors will give you different word counts than the word count validator on the website. I recommend, before validating, that you take the following steps:
1. Save your document as a text file.
2. Copy and replace all dashes with spaces.
3. Convert any smart quotes to regular quotes.
4. Copy and paste the contents of this text file to the validator.
This will help in many cases where your word processor comes up with a word count higher than the validator.
