USA :: Oregon :: Rogue Valley
Notes
Greetings All,
I'm humbled and honored to have been chosen by the Office of Letters and Lights (OLL) to be the 2011 Municipal Liaison (ML) for the Oregon - Rogue Valley Region.
We are a LARGE region geographically. We're almost like three, four or five normal regions in terms of square miles and actual areas of human civilization. We've got GP, Medford and Ashland of course, but I know for a fact there are WriMo's in Cave Junciton and I'll bet there are some in Central Point, White City, Phoenix, Talent, Rogue River, Merlin Selma, K-Falls, Williams, Murphy, Hugo and there might even be one or two in Galice! I know there are probably a dozen other cities too. Please forgive me if i'm not naming yours here. It doesn't mean I'm not overjoyed to have you as a WriMo in the Oregon - Rogue Valley region, because I am!
Last year, we had 339 WriMo's identifying themselves as part of our region and with some increased P.R. efforts this year, I hope and imagine we'll have a lot more.
But down to business. I am NOT going to be one of those IRON-FISTED ML's who insists on knowing your every move or gets huffy if you organize a Write-In without keeping me 100% in the loop. The OLL prefers that you keep me in the loop just so that I can make sure your event will be well-attended and won't be competing with another Write-In happening at the same time just ten minutes away, but overall, it's NOT the end of the world. Really, the reason to keep me in the loop is so that I can help you. And before I go any further PROPS to Ashland (and "PepperDust") for organizing their own Facebook Group. That's exactly the kind of initiative I will need from LOTS of you seeing as there are far more square miles and individuals in our region than I can possibly serve all on my own. I'm going to need a lot of volunteers in our area to help me out between the end of Oct and the first of Dec. I'm one person, a mom to a two -year-old and i have a full time job and a 45-minute (each way) commute so there will be plenty of opportunities for many, many of you to volunteer and stretch your leadership legs.
We are now enjoying the newly launched NaNo site. The OLL has warned that they're transitioning the site from one type of coding to another so please be patient with the inevitable glitches we all may experience with the new site. Above all, be kind to OLL. They re a non-profit after all and without them, where would we all be?
Thanks for listening everyone and check back for more posts from me about how to volunteer and a few October meet-ups we'll be having for those who want to be somewhat more involved in the planning for our area.
Cheerio for now!
