YES! The sign up / sign in process is finally ready. I've been refreshing like a creature possessed all day.

For those returning for another round: *waves in an overly excited fashion* Great to see you guys again.
For those attempting for the first time: Howdi and welcome to the family. Great to have you onboard and I hope you have a fabulous time with us.

So, who is attempting this mad dash this year? Show me names and numbers!

I'm Morcalivan (or Cali for short, or Lindie if you really wanna). Returning for a 4th time and hoping for a 3rd success. Probably doing a fantasy novel because that is what I always do, I like making up worlds. I've promised Immoline and Pen I'd give them a hand this year on the PTA/GP side of things. You will see me on the forums a lot because I have no self control of which to speak.

Enough about me, tell me about you, brave NaNonian (I just really like that word).

moonblue waves back enthusiastically. It is great to be back. I bounced into work yesterday (yes, on a Monday!) all ready to sign up. Only to find the site was only opening in the evening. US time:( Sigh, and today I actually had to do some work when I arrived (bigger sigh) so have only just joined.

I loved this forum last year, and am sure it helped me to finally finish the novel. Nothing like a friendly community - and an element of friendly competition to keep in the top 20 wordcount list.

This year I am doing something radically different. I am actually planning and structuring my novel - the last two years I just went in and wrote. Going to be interesting to see how this works out. Am working my way through genres - the first year I did chick lit, last year science fiction. This year I am doing literary fiction (I think - although there is no guarantee that it wont end up being slapstick comedy or satire - or that the dragons and wizards which refused to enter my story last year forcing it to become science fiction when I had intended fantasy won't suddenly show up and disrupt my serious coming of age novel.) I am hoping to explore issues of love, loss, death, depression, family, friendship, spirituality and creativity through the eyes of a teenager. The sort of stuff which shows up in my poetry a lot but has not been in my fiction much.

Ok, back to work. Look forward to getting to know all this year's writers. Good luck everyone.

Haha! First thing I did this morning? Check NaNo.org!

*Squeezes Cali in an over excited manner*
You beat me to first post by a centimeter!

For those who don't know me: I'm Snowy. Here for my third time, hopefully lucky!
I'll be writing an absurdist semi-fantasy humour/satire novel. (Well, it's *supposed* to be funny)
I will be setting up a little shack in the forums for the next two months.

Hmm... NaNonians.
I think we need an anthem, and maybe some sort of secret handshake.

moonblue: "This year I am doing something radically different. I am actually planning and structuring my novel - the last two years I just went in and wrote."
I'm in the 'let's try this planning thing for once' club too. Who knows, it might work!

Ooh, an anthem would rock. Perhaps a brave soul would even like to create a recording of it for us (that brave soul being not me, cause your ears would bleed) or, zOMG, a music video! Got melody, anyone?

Also, for those with a Facebook account, Pen made a group of coolness for all us SA NaNonians -> http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6044061582 Join. Befriend. Receive lotsa spam. XD

Hi everyone! First NaNo, and I'm thrilled to death to be doing it at last after hearing about it a couple of years ago. Nice to find that there are some Seffricans doing this. Happy writing to all.

Hey everyone!!!

I swore I wouldnt do this to myself again, but damn Cali and her infectious enthusiasm. I'm back- and I'm terrified- so far its all normal.
Th ething that is not normal however is the lack of Ml's on this site- normally we would be here herding everyone towards their buddies and asking them to play nicely- but there seems to be a slight delay in endowing us with our super powers- so as soon as we are - we'll be back in full force!
(((((hugs everyone here so far))))
I have no clue as to what I will be writing this year- last year I just didnt make it by the skin of my teeth- this year it would be good to finish again- my God its my fifth nano november. I must be crazy- or nanowrimo has eaten my soul.

Well, I've been waiting for this since recovering from last November (which only happened around February... had a story in planning since March). Absolutely can't wait to do this again. I have 12 chapters currently planned (so I don't write myself into corners like last year!) and I'm finalising all my characters. It's going to be AWESOME!

Anyways, for those that don't know me... I'm Saeth (aka Kirsten) and I'm doing this for the third year. The first year... didn't work out. Managed (barely) to finish last year. I'm also doing a Fantasy story this year, like always, because Fantasy just works for me.

Looking forward to novelling with everyone this year!!!

I finally found my way back too!

It's good to see so many friends from last year already preparing for this year's bout of complete madness. And some new faces too!! Welcome, welcome!

Please don't ask what genre I'm writing this year... no idea yet. Once again there is no plot outline and no story idea, just a few characters pushing each other around in my skull and fighting over who the main character will be. Hopefully this year they'll do more than sit around all month under an oak tree waiting for apples to fall and see if Newton was right about gravity. And with any luck at all the Internal Editor will be banished and won't play a leading role in the novel as the wordcount stagnates in the low 2000s as the deadline draws near.

Good luck everyone, and happy writing!

Peoples! *squishes you all until your ribs creak*

Hoping to see a wave of new participants this year. Perhaps if we're very lucky we might even double the number of SA NaNonians from last year. *starry eyed*

Hi everyone!

This will be my first year participating in the craziness. I wanted to last year but mostly because of work I never even had the chance to register.

The whole thing is scary! I have no idea whether I can even write that many words but we'll just have to wait and see.

It's nice to see so many South Africans. I look forward to see how many of us there will be eventually and how many of us succeed in reaching the goal.

Have a wonderful time.

Hi there, everyone!

I'm back too and I can feel the Nano vibe seeping through my veins, especially after reading this thread.

I'm not sure how my writing will go this year because I will be overseas for the entire month of November but I am going to take a stab at it. However, if I don't succeed in getting my words down daily, I will don my cheerleader outfit and cheer you all on from the sidelines.

It's good to be back.

Hi Moonblue!

It's like meeting up with old friends again.

We had a good race last year so here's to an even better one this year! I'm interested to see you're doing some planning this year. So am I. Like you, the last two years I've flown blind. This time I'm trying to be organised. HAH! Watch this space!

YEAHHHHHH!!!! Hellooo TygerKatt!

"It's so great to see you back where you belong!"

HAH! So you'll be overseas this time will you? How on EARTH will you do NaNo overseas? And here I was looking forward to a race to the finish again! I think it's amazing that you're going to try anyway, and if I can stretch my hand out and give you a tug I will gladly do so!

Yes, it's good to be back. UP THE EASTERN CAPERS!

*squishes more new arrivals* Mah homeys.

In the interest of more link share-age and because I think this year's official icons are sort of uninspired, let me point you to community created goodies: http://community.livejournal.com/nano_icons/ they are pretty and sparkly

I don't think you need to have a LJ account or have the community friended to see the icons.

Hi again!

SAShirl, it is so good to see you here too. I was wondering when my challenger was going to hop on. I promise, I will give our challenge my best.

This year I am going to take a stab at the romance genre - I've decided to give 'what I don't know about' a shot. Basically I am planning on cheating and my main character will be a photo-journalist. Hopefully this will mean that I am going to just be jotting down my thoughts and experiences of the day down and possibly adding a story line.

To be honest, I wasn't sure if I was going to take part this year but after popping in here, I am infected by the Nano bug again. I have started working out my character maps. This so exciting!

Who would have thought Novembers could be so grand?

I am in Wilderness and this will be my third NaNo, and the first without exams, so I will finish it! Yes, it shall be done.

I think I try this every year.

I *know* I fail every time.

We'll see how this November goes. At this point i have no idea what I'm going to write. I need to wrap up the current project before I can start thinking of new ideas, otherwise I'll just get distracted.

I can be found over here: http://www.cathellisen.livejournal.com

Good luck to everyone taking part this year.

I am a new kid on the block. You could say my arm has be royally twisted to participate in NaNo. :-)

So here I am no promises, but going to give it a good go.

Wishing you all well.
