We're back and better than ever! (I'm sure of it! We rock!)
Where are my neighbors? Come out, come out, wherever you are! Don't you feel it? It's that time of year again. The time for pumpkin spice lattes and shiny new notebooks and the incredible urge to smear them with ink. The time when every person you meet has the potential to become a character in your novel. The time to start stockpiling treats to stash in your writing area, as private rewards (or distractions, whatever you choose).
It's NaNoWriMo season!
I'm Heather, back for a fifth attempt. Absolutely no plot. Absolutely not a problem (I hope). I'm finally going to take Chris's advice and only spend one week planning my novel, and I will do that the last week of October. Oh gosh, I think I'm starting to panic already. Breathe. Just breathe.
Who else is going for it in 2007?

Hi Heather,
This is my first year! November can't come soon enough . . . at leat that's what I say now. I live about an hour from Fredericksburg, not sure if anybody in my immediate (rural) area is going to join me. My friends all look extremely fearful when I start my strong-arm tactics. I would love a buddy if anybody out there is willing and able. Thank you.

I'm in journalism right now... o.o
And should totally not be on Nano's forums.
But we have a substitute..
And she's kinda lax in her patrols of the computers.
I wanted to drop in and say that I'm so hyped for this years nano, and the changes to the site are pretty cool.

Edit: I'm sorry! X.x I double posted on accident, and haven't yet figured out if I can delete a post or not.
My bad, everyone.

Hi Heather and all!
I'm kind of cheating by being in this forum, since I moved to PA in August, but I wanted to stop by and say hello to my VA Nano friends. I'm back for the 4th year and looking forward to it. I actually have a rough plot, since I'll be continuing my Rehearsal series with the start of the 3rd book (at the same time I'll be trying to finish edits for book 2 .. hmm).
Wishing you all well!

I didn't do the double post, lol. It did it by itself! I can't figure out how to change it, either, but at least we can edit it.

Hello, everyone!
I'm Lufia, and I hail from Fauquier County, but I tend to lurk in the Fredricksburg/Stafford/Spotsy thread, since I've yet to find a lot of Fauquier people doing nano. Maybe this year will be the exception! This will be my 5th year doing Nano, so I'm really excited. No clue what I'm doing yet, but probably original fiction, since I've had better luck with that the last 2 years than with fanfiction. I can't wait to see everyone again!

Hi Heather and everyone!
I'm back for my third year. Hope to do another 60,000 on the fantasy draft. Then it'll be time to revise, rewrite, etc. I'm hoping to work this into three novels.
It's been a busy year, and I've decided that for the next year I'm going to concentrate on my own writing, which means I have to cut back on something. Wish it could be the day job, but I guess my dog and four cats will be upset if we have no place to live and they do enjoy eating....
I''m not going to do much teaching or mentoring during the coming year, and also thinking of cutting back on the editing work I'm doing.
I'll see how it goes.
Happy NaNo everyone!
What's everyone else been doing?
Take care,
June

Hey, everyone! See, I knew we rock. ;-)
Hi, Dawn, it's nice to meet you! You're more than welcome to join us here, it does seem like the surrounding areas are lacking in wrimos. But don't worry, we're here for you!
Lorraine! PA! I completely forgot. And here I am still thinking you're nearby... even though I do remember you talking about moving. Geez *slaps forehead*
Billie, don't worry, I fear I was leaving double posts around the board too, due to the extremely slow loading of the pages. They seem okay now (at six in the morning, sheesh). And I won't tell anyone you were checking out the forums while you were supposed to be focussing on journalism. Shhh.... :-)
Lufia! Good to see you! And June, 60K, you rock!
I've got warm fuzzies now, it feels like a reunion. Nano is amazing.
Well, I'm still working on that short story (last year's nano, it was desperate to be pared down), I'm trying to keep it under 1500 words. Or just at 1500. It's interesting though, how difficult it is. I believe Nano has trained me to pad the count too much, and I have to keep reminding myself, keep it simple, don't add 15 years of back story! I honestly thought it would be done by now, but I'm enjoying playing around with this word and that, and arranging the sentaces, and basically editing. Maybe then my inner editor will be satisfied and it will be out of my system for November. You think?
Hope everyone is well!

I'm Michelle, a freshman at UMW this year. I've tried NaNo the last two years in November without much success. But, my high school Creative Writing Club organized a summer Novel Writing Month in July last year, and I managed to reach just over 38K. This year I have an idea for a modern fantasy that I'm accumulating basic information for. like setting and character sketches. I'm excited to be doing this again, especially with all of the new people I've been meeting to lift character traits from.

I'm in journalism right now..
And we have a free period, so no one really cares what we do.
So.. right now I'm just kinda hanging out, roaming the internet.
I'm hyped up for this years Nano!
I can't wait!
=D I have no idea what I'm writing about, but last year I went into it clueless as well, and turned out one of my best stories yet.
Ask Bella_Bekket, she knows. =P
But yeah, I'm going to run now, the bell will ring soon.
Latteer!

Might drop by Hyperion to do some writing but who knows....

Hi, Michelle! Good to have you with us! That's awesome you had a summer "nano", what a great way to get inspired!
Hehe, Billie, scoping the forums when you're not supposed to. ;-)
Mrpants! Another name I recognize! What's up, my fellow fifth year? :-) Hyperion is a great writing spot, even when it's busy. I love to people watch and evesdrop on conversations. It makes for good dialogue, I think.
Bella! Yay, you're back! We bellas rule!
Alright, just checking in, anyone else finding they're becoming addicted to the boards already? It's like I've been fasting all year, and suddenly there's a great feast laid out before me. I must devour it.

I'm Claire and this is my first year doing NaNoWriMo as well. I'm very excited and a little bit scared.
We have got to find some place on campus where we can get together to write.

Hi Heather and everyone!
Sorry I'm late to the party. Jackie and I have been talking about a pre-NaNo party in the 'burg somewhere...
Anyone interested? Drop me a note/pm/email/etc. and let me know if you prefer a weeknight or weekend.
I can't believe I'm doing this again. I finished successfully last year, and plan to do so again this year, but honestly? I'm freakin'!
I've decided to write a sequel to my last year's book. I'm excited, but have no idea how I'm going to do it. What do I know about 1800's blacksmithing!? NADA!!!
That's the fun of it, right?
Love to all,
Kate

Kate! *huggles* A pre-Nano get together sounds like bliss. :-)
I just requested November 1st off from work. My boss was like... "November first? Halloween I understand, but..." so then I said, "It's the first day of NaNoWriMo." He got this blank look on his face, so I explained it, and he just said, "Okaaayyyy...." I just don't get non-writers.

Depending on the number of people we have, I think that the Nest would be a good place to start, either the tall tables or the room thing with pool and ping pong tables. The library wouldn't be suitable for any social writing, and when it's nice we can move outside and set up signs to advertise the amazing novel adventure. The fountain may also work for nicer days, and both it and the Nest are relatively central. We can plan overnight writings in Trinkle's study room, namely for the start of the month and any other days that happen to be convenient.
This is really exciting. I was afraid I would have to try this alone and feebly poke friends and classmates to join. Would either of you be interested in making a sign and/or poster for whenever we manage to meet? I'll be doing one at home, over Fall Break, and if we can figure out a day before November to sit around somewhere with those sitting out, we might be able to lure some other hapless souls into joining us.
I've also started a UMW forum topic, so the Fred/Staff/Spot people don't have to worry about distinguishing campus meetings from regional meetings... or as many of my NaNo promoting, rant-lenth forum posts...

Who's up for a party? So, you guys know Bella Bagel Cafe? The one I did several write ins at last year? Well, they moved and would be happy to support us in our noveling efforts. They're now just Bella Cafe (another Bella!) and the owner, Will, is a good friend of mine. As long as I let him know before dozens of writers descend on the place, he'll be fine with us doing some writing there. The have great food, great atmosphere for a writer, and most importantly for NaNo, AMAZING COFFEE!!! Just let me know. Sunday's are the only days that work for me (marching band) and Tuesday's only if it's in Stafford. Marching Band sure can get in the way of NaNo if you don't plan properly like I do!!!

Michelle, you are awesome. (And yes, I as also afraid of having to do this alone--- because AIMing the only other person I know doing it is more distracting than productive :-P).
Wandering off into the UMW forum, now.

I'd love to join in any writing parties in the Fredericksburg/Spotsy area! I live in Caroline, and I think I might be the only wrimo here. This is my third year, and I've yet to meet up with a single living soul who could say, "Oh! NaNoWriMo! I've heard of that!" Well, except for all the ones I've educated personally. And most of them don't get it, which means none of them are the least bit impressed at the end of the month when I've finished.
I don't get non-writers either.

So, we're looking at Sunday, October 21st at Camille's in Central Park. They have a private back room that we could use if there are a ton of us, but it's usually pretty quiet in there as well. Panera was a bit crowded and noisy last year.
Times? Anyone?

Afternoon would work well for me. Camille's would be a nice change of pace from Panera. If we ever had a meet-up at Bella's (I'm up for all things bella, lol), that would be nice too, although I still can't figure out where it is!

Anytime after 2pm. I have church in the morning in Alexandria, I just need an address to give mi madre, because I don't have a car. Camille's sounds great as long as they have coffee and good food...I'll tell Billie next period.
