I think it is Romance... But its future based, involves bloody horse races, personal issues, and angst. But then it could be almost like a mystery since it involves a detective.
It’s going to be about two males. But there’s a twist. I haven't named the detective yet... but there are these horses... they are like cyborgs but not. One of the main characters rides them as in sport. He doesn't keep the money for himself except what is necessary. He donates the rest. Well the other lead is a detective... He thinks that that rider is actually got something dirty going on under the table. They end up falling in love. Here’s the twist. Once the case is over, and the Rider is proven not guilty, the detective walks away. But over the course of the case, they've fallen in love. But decide it is best to go separate ways. Well the detective notices that the rider goes out of the circuit. Come to find out he's pregnant. Ready for the twist? He’s really a she... He's androgynous, and transgender. He leaves the circuit to keep the secret, and to have the baby. Of course the detective will take interest in the riders disappearance thinking that there’s still something dirty going on under the table, and he's just good at hiding it. Later the rider dies in one of the races, and it transitions to show the detective not wanting to let the kid follow in his 'fathers’ footsteps.
One drop of blood from a person can either allow the horse to claim them as their master, or the person to meet their doom.

Sounds sci-fi to me. Maybe a sci-fi romance?

I'd call it sci-fi. Romance as a genre generally includes the two leads living happily ever after together.

Well, Sci-fi definitely. A sub-genre could be mystery or drama.

Oh, I beg to differ that Romance is about people living happily ever after. Romeo and Juliet is a prime candidate......you could definatly include the subgenre romance

That's because Romeo & Juliet is a tragedy, not a romance.
But yeah, as soon as you use the word "cyborg", you're in Sci-Fi territory whether you like it or not...

I say Sci Fi because it is about the impact on people of some ideas or technology
