Yay, virgin forum! :D

Thought I'd make a thread for everyone to speak up and let everyone know that they're here and rarin' to go for November. So to start, my name's Eryn. I was writing in Edmonton last year, but now I'm back home, and hope to see both old and new faces this year both online and at the to-be-planned meetups. My novel this year I'm hoping will be a reimagining of my 2003 NaNo, because I have some cool new ideas I want to try out for it while improving the world set-up established in the first version.

Yipee!!!

I can hardly keep from typing away right now! The only thing stopping me is the complete abscence of character, plot or inspirational idea! I LOVE this part. The panic build slowly over October as I get nearer D-day without any plans...then BOOM...the creative bulls are let loose and it's all running flat out and avoiding the trampling until November is done!

This ...uh...dosen't make me masochistic, does it?

Oh, I'm not the only Calgarian...whew.

Anyway, this is my first NaNo, and I'm not entirely sure time could be passing any slower :(

I've got something resembling a plot, a general cast of characters, and itchy typing fingers. Come on, November, any time now...

First time NaNo. Alerted by a friend who participated last year and inspired by another who was recently published. Writing mostly short stories and screenplays these days, and this will be my first novel. Couldn't think of a better way to go about it.

Hi, I'm Leah. I live just a little way north of Calgary. This is my third year doing NaNo and I'm excited to be doing it again. I'm hoping that this is my year to reach the 50k mark.

I was thinking of maybe using October to work on the novel I started last year during NaNo as a way to get back into the groove.

I'm back again, of course. I hope to see many returning names and faces. I just moved, but as soon as I get my computer up and running again (I'm at work right now), I'll be hosting nightly online chats at the IRC channel we had last year - keep an eye out for information on how to get in on the fun! :-)

Not sure what I'm going to write this year, but I'm totally pumped since last year's win! :-D

Hello all, Cabby here, returning for my second year in a row to this fabulous frenzy of the written word that we know and love as NaNoWriMo. Whew, that was a long sentence. I won last year, much to my and everyone else's shock, and I can't tell you all how absolutely thrilled I am to be doing this again. Like, seriously. You have NO IDEA. I am bouncing in my desk chair as we speak.
This year I'm doing a fantasy novel set in a world that I began sketching out about a week ago, using Seventh Sanctum and some gorgeous landscape photos. I've got a number of civilizations envisioned and a few main characters, but I'm trying to force myself not to plan out too much about my MCs. For me, more than half the fun is watching them grow and surprise you as the month wears on.
Anyway, I'll stop babbling at you (you should now have some idea why I had no troubles making my word count last year ^.^;) and let someone else introduce themselves! Great to see you all, and I'm looking forward to the ordeal ahead of us!

Hi!
I'm Michael, and this is my second year hanging out at NaNoWriMo. I won last year (under a pseudonym) with a contemporary novel, and this year I'm going to be working on a historical. Best of luck to all! You can do it!

Aaron, returning after last year's win and looking to rally the troops against Edmonton in our 'Friendly, but serious enough to down 4 quintuple espresso's for enough energy to cram in an extra 2000 words to push us in the lead' rivalry. :)

Look forward to chatting with you all.

Hi, I'm that guy named Tim. I was in the one chat room all the time last year, pestering Janna. I intend to do such again this year.
Between my Janna pestering, however, I shall be flailing wildly at my poor, poor keyboard in an attempt to create another beautiful masterpiece like the one I made last year. I have absolutely no idea what it'll be about though. I'm thinking zombies... or robin hood... or... uh... Shirley? (those of you that know my story will know of the Shirley I speak of)

I'll come up with something.

Good to see you back, IK! (And you other returning folks!)

Once Heather & I and SarahJanet & her co-MLs have ironed out the details, there'll be a thread posted about the competition with Edmonton. I'll probably track Calgary vs Edmonton progress in my signature again this year, too.

Hey All!

This is my second year at NaNo, though last year went a little awry since I only heard of the project half way into November and was having a crazy month of moving and other various life altering changes. Since then I've been prepping for NaNoWriMo 2007!

I don't live in Calgary, and am fortunate to call Canmore my home. Waking up every morning to be surrounded by mountains is rather spectacular.

Can't wait to see what NaNo brings for all this year! Good luck!

YES! I'm remembered! My journey towards the dark side is COMPLETE!

Always nice to see some familiar people, and glad to see that Shirley has not been forgotten. Shirley shall never die!

I do wonder if I can incorporate Shirley into all of my tales though... with an imagination as insane as my own I shouldn't have an issue... but, what if... WHAT IF I decide to do some story that's not so fantastical. The very thought of it is bubble bobbling...or.. something.

Do be sure to join the craziness in the nano chat once it's up. I do love an audience.

Tim! Of course you're remembered!

Longest...Battle...Evar. :D

Didn't we construct the entire plot of Conan 3 at a restaurant table last year and condense it into one line of spoken text? "Nice castle...I want it. AAAIIIIEEEEEEEE!!!"

...or was that the story with the bunnies?

Anyhoo, I anticipate much random-ness. Mwaha...MUHAHAHAHAAaaaaa...

ik? IK?!? Everyone calls me 'IK'...like they've just stepped in something. "Oh, Hi! ...ICK!" (make disgusted nose-wrinkled face) Am I so appalling?!? Do I deserve this sort of treatment?!? If you prick me, do I not leak?

Makes me so mad I could go out and head-butt traffic! In the nude! Blargh!!!

Oh...I mean, uh...Heyya Janna! Good to be seeing you again! ;-)

Hi, this is my first year trying NaNoWriMo and I'm both excited and terrified. I spent all last November peering over CabbyHat's shoulder at her novel and wishing I could join in the fun. She is my sister so I was kept up to date on all the NaNo stuff that she found interesting enough to share (such as Shirley) and can't wait to be part of it myself this year!

...we can't wait for you to be part of it either, Nami. Welcome!

...ignore the dark-clad gentleman in the back desperately downing caffeine pills while sobbing uncontrollably into the arm of his trenchcoat while trying to boot his laptop...this is *fun*! We're here to have *fun*!

(puts on huge smiley-face)

FUN! AHAHAHAAAaaaaa....

(no, seriously...welcome.) :-)

It was the bunny story last year. The amazing bunny story that should be posted again sometime this year so we can compare it to the new one we'll make come the middle o' the month contest this year.

Gasp and shock! Shirley has expanded beyond the writers? My own creation is becoming a worldwide celebrity! ... well, at least a slightly wider than na-no wide celebrity... it's a start though.

Hey there, nice to see the Calgary board already active and rolling.

My name's Chris, this is my third year participating. In year one, I made it about a third of the way, and last year I got bogged down by life and work from about day three, so I have yet to win.

Back again this year, to see if I can achieve the hat-trick of failure! Woo!

I kid.

Since my story from last year never really happened, I'm going to try it again this year. It's going to be a darkly comedic, exploitative, violent and bizarre story about unlikely super heroes. Or something. Working on the characters and outline nice and early in the game, so hopefully I can beat this mother of a challenge finally.

Hello all.

Kerry here, I am living in Cochrane right now. First time trying this, though I did consider it last year. I think considering it should count for something. lol

I have no idea what I am going to do - just a vague feeling in the back of my head of some girl trying to make herself heard - I am gonna keep her quiet till the 1st. I look forward to seeing who she is and what kind of story she's gotten herself into.

I also look forward to getting to know some other people from Calgary (and area). Should be a good month!

Ah, yes, the bunny story.

I'll keep it in hiding until our Midway Bash, and then we can compare them after we've written this year's masterpiece.

Second-time NaNo-er. I won last year, but didn't have much left to salvage from the wreckage that was my novel. Hoping to come out of it with something a little better this year. But the fun, oh the fun, the fun will be unparalleled.

My name is Cat. I was here last year, but a trip overseas kind of ran me over half-way through the month. So! Finishing this year, yes? I'm pretty excited, despite having IB projects due during November and graduating this year. I've been planning my novel for a while now after being bitten by the muse, and can't wait for November to come.
