Hello Long Island Nano-writers and welcome to Nano 07!

Please feel free to ask any questions, make some comments and make some new friends. I, for one, am very excited about Nano this year and I'm really looking forward to hearing everyone's ideas, maybe reading bits of their novels, and just having some fun in general.

I would like to briefly discuss a kick-off party. Generally we meet in a place on Route 110 (think Huntington, Farmingdale area, look it up on a map if you're confused ^_^) We go for a meeting then generally move on to some place to eat. Maybe this year, depending on what place I can find maybe we can try to work both at the same time, but we have just about a month to figure that part out so I think that'll be okay.

Meeting up on Sunday, October 28th will probably be our best bet, start off early in the afternoon maybe around 2 or 3pm, then have an early dinner together to get to know each other a bit more.

As far as location, if everyone wouldn't mind just posting the round-about area that you all are coming from along with a note on whether you can make it or not would be cool, and for anyone whose parents are concerned about meeting up with a group of strangers, they are more than welcome to come along (hey maybe we can convince them to join in! lol), we will be in a public place, and any other concerns anyone has you can email me ^_^

Oh and PS, we have a mailing list too through Yahoo! We're called LinoTypo so feel free to go over and sign up since we have things going on other than Nano too!

That it? Yeah I think so. Again, welcome all, drop me a line, and here's hoping to seeing you all at the end of the month!

I will probably miss all those meetings just like last year (although I am a bit closer to that area now) but if there is anyone who can't make it out as far, there was a small group of us (3 to 4 people) who met pretty regularly at panera (either the one in westbury near roosevelt field or the one in east meadow and I think we had talked about the one in new hyde park also) and I know there's at least two of us who will be doing it again this year so if interested, drop me some mail and I'll let you know when we plan on meeting.

Best of luck to everyone and I hope to make it out to some of the bigger events this year :)

A big thank you to Maris for stepping up to the plate to help out with the MLing duties this year. I think we are going to have a great NaNo and everyone is going to hit 50K words this year! Definitely sign up for the "linotypo" mailing list if you really want to stay on top of things. We'll be conducting most of our business here in the forum, but we'll send announcements to the mailing list for those who aren't forum lurkers. Here's the linotypo link:

Cheers!

If only Stony Brook University allowed Freshmen to own cars. Sigh.

Is anyone attending SBU--or dare I say it?--or our football rivals, Hofstra?

Well, I don't attend SBU, however I live across the street, quite literally ^_^ so maybe we can set up a carpool for you and maybe a few other SBU carless writers? I can fit up to three or four passengers in my car.

Glad to be back. =)

Breanna and I will hopefully be able to make at least some of the meetings -- hopefully, at the very least, the kick off and the TGIO one like we did last year. ^^

And yeah, I haven't been around Linotypo; much of my summer was spent at the dojo, and Junior year is being split between school work and karate...No sleep will be had in November. None at all. =P

Edit: Oh, and duh. I'm in Farmingdale. =) I should (might) be able to grab hold of a licensed driver to be my chaffeur.

Hey, I go to SBU! Haha, it can indeed be "a place without heart" sometimes. But you just got to get out there and do stuff.

Carpooling sounds fun, I might be able to give rides depending on if I'm allowed to have the car and have directions (I get a little nervous driving to places I've never been, but don't worry, I'm a safe driver ^^).

I would definitely like to go to the kick-off party, so I'll try to keep that date open.

Hurrah for NaNoWriMo 2007! I can't wait for November!

I am out here on the western edge of our little civilization, and one of the people who hung out with MBee and will be doing so again, Good Lord Willin and the Crick don't rise.

I want to second what SoloShikigami said - if your parents/significant others/children are worried about you hanging out with us, bring them along to meet us! They are welcome to hang around where they can see it all happening even if they do not care to participate.

And if you happen to be lurking here wondering if we are worth getting to know, well, come out and find out! We like us, you may too.

Oh - I have a bunch of things I might write about, but no plot. That is sort of my trademark, I'm afraid.

Alright, that's really cool. Thanks for offering the carpool option--it's what I really need--and I also thank you for reading past my sighing. Just arrange a time and place and I'll try to make it there. =]

Uh...what time Sunday? I have to be at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for an Art History assignment at 1pm, and I'm not exactly sure how long the thing will run for, as well as the ride back to Stony Brook by the LIRR. Would it be at a late hour preferably?

Hey there Kim, good to see you, willing to head out towards Huntington/Farmindgdale for a first meetup on October 28th? Hope so. I didn't decide on location just yet, figure meet up in the early to mid-afternoon then after we all talk and such we will head over someplace else for food (unless I find a good place for food and conversation).

Ooh, I love seeing all the familiar names - hi again, everyone!

Before I say anything else, I apologize for kind of disappearing off the LinoTypo list. I was essentially eaten by my Junior Year and the school musical (we did win honorable mention for best high school musical in the country though - yay!). Plus, I frequently forget that I have an e-mail address at Yahoo! since I usually use hotmail. Hopefully, this year will be different ... :[

But back to Nanowrimo - I'm so glad to be back! Obviously, I plan to take on the challenge once more this year, even with an insane senior year ahead. My goal is to get most of my college stuff done in October, that way I'm free to write (and procrastinate) in November. I have a sort of idea forming in my head, but nothing concrete yet.

Also, I'm afraid I won't be able to attend the kick off party. (*Sob.*) My friends and I have onstage tickets to see a matinee of Spring Awakening that day, so I'll be gone for the afternoon. If it ends up becoming later for some reason, then maybe there's a possibility, but I doubt it.

I really hope I get a chance to see you all again soon though! I am very excited for this year. Viva la Nanowrimo! <3

I also go to SBU... but unfortunately am also without a car. (Go figure, a commuter who doesn't drive...) But even so if we can't manage to get to the big meeting we could have additional smaller ones on campus perhaps? It's my first year participating and it'd be cool to meet some other people since all my other friends doing it are in Philadelphia...

Hey~ My name is Reeves and I live right near 110 by the mall. Glad to hear the meetings would be close! If it were any further away I don't think I'd put in the effort to attend heh...

I'm an IT guy by trade and I've been writing some novels and short stories in my free time (which is never.) and figured Id try to step up to the plate and actually finish a nano this time around.

Hi everyone! First-year WriMo here. I'm from Nassau County. I'm finally getting my butt into gear and writing the fantasy novel I promised myself I would when, many moons ago, I first picked up The Golden Compass.

I would love to meet everyone, but I'm going to be upstate that weekend--NYS Field Band Championships at Syracuse University. I am geek, hear me roar.

Still waiting for confirmation on possible places, I got a suggestion that to sort of get two birds with one stone so to speak, we could all get together at the Black Haus Brewery/Restaurant, they do have a large room and I think as long as I call them ahead and tell them we're having what, 30-40 people it could work. Again, for any with concerned parents, they are still welcome to join us (in fact I encourage it! ^_^), the restaurant is family-friendly, and I think this could allow us to hold the meeting a little later in the day to allow for a few more people to join us. I am still going to hold out for the KoC Hall location if possible, but for now any major objections?

It's kinda funny that all these people attend SBU - I just graduated from SBU in May and decided to go to Long Island Univ. in Brooklyn for grad school. NOW you all make an appearance!

This is my first NaNoWriMo, although I'm a little wary because I'm taking three classes, and working two jobs, and commuting into Brooklyn four days a week, so my time is limited.

I just joined this year, but I do hope to be participant and perhaps will meet up with you all sometime. ESM High student, Alexandra; Junior - you can wing anything else from my profile. I drive by 110 all the time, so that should be fine

Hi Everyone!

My first year doing Nano and I'm really excited. I will try to make the kick-off party too and for those who live near Roosevelt Field Mall, I'm pretty close to that - I saw there was a small group of people that get together, so if you need more, feel free to drop me a line!

Hey y'all~!!

I'm Rose. I just figured out this was the introduction-y post, and figured I should drop a line. I recently returned to Long Island full-time after finishing my BA in North Carolina. I won Nano in 2003, but haven't really tried it since then, especially after my second year Nano slump finished and my perpetual course-overloading began. XD I'm really looking forward to this year, though! I will try to get to some of the Huntington gatherings, but I feel like the people who gather near Roosevelt Field are a lot more likely to see me - ten minutes is an easier drive than an hour, sorry!!!

Anyways, great to see y'all! We're going to write like nobody's business next month!!!

Hey there! I'm a 3rd year NaNo-er, but just getting the hang of the techno stuff and I live in Carle Place - walking distance from Panera, Roosevelt Field, Glen Country Mall (where the fairly recently renovated and now Giganto-store Barnes & Noble is located) and also near the Fortunoff Mall where Borders is located right on the border bet. Carle Place and Westbury. I work in NYC, but am home evenings and weekends, and would love to make contact & hook up with other LI NaNo's. Email is lhorton@fkks.com. Looking forward to this year!

Apologies I've not posted here 'till the eleventh hour, the last few weeks have been incredibly hectic! I'm a somewhat experienced nano-er, although I had a different username last year. I'm not going for the full goal, I can't, due to classes, and how much time I'm going to have to be spending in a dark room full of semi-toxic chemicals. Fun!

So anyway, I'll be attending as many write-ins as humanly possible, provided they're not on Tuesday or Thursday evenings. I'm also a Stony Brook student, but, being a Senior, I have a car, so I am available for carpooling. I commonly park in Tabler, but I'd be willing to pick people up anywhere on campus rather than making you schlep from anywhere but Tabler or Roth.

Hi all,

I'm Christine, and I'm feeling the second-year slump before I've even started. Hopefully looking forward to meeting some people this year, as I'm back on the island. I need to go do some plotting! Good luck everyone.

Hey Christine! Chin up, join us for some write-ins and you'll be fine I promise ^_^
I don't know if you can or if you will even get this in time but a few people and I are meeting at Selden Starbucks if you'd like to join us for a midnight write-in. Check the rest of the forums for write-ins and hope to see you there!
