Last year, one of the south denver meetings was fairly central, at a Perkins on Colorado Blvd....hoping to see that again....any night but a thursday!

Ditto for the Perkins. Do Tuesday nights work for people?

Yep, the Perkins is willing to let us use them for meet-ups once a week in November again. Actually, due to my work schedule, Tuesday and Thursdays will not work for me, unless we want to meet up at like 8pm or later on Tuesdays. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, or the weekends were what I'm hoping for so I can actually, you know, show up and host the darn things ^_^.;; If it looks like the vast majority can do Tuesdays, we'll figure it out, but for now let's get a consensus from the whole group before deciding on a day, okay?

Any day but Thursdays: what works best for everyone, say at like 7 or later in the evenings maybe?

In addition to the weekly meet-ups at the Perkins, I'd like to try and organize some simple write-ins as well for the less socially-minded and for those of us who work better with other people there to keep up motivated ^_^. The problem is finding a central location that has enough tables and ideally Wi-Fi...I already checked with the Glendale Barnes&Noble just in case, and was advised against setting up something there unless we know an employee willing to recommend us. (Long story behind that, but I did try...anyone here who works there and might be able to help, that did seem to be the most central location last year for our area so yeah...) I'm looking into other places, but the big problem is space. So first of all, who would be interested in attending a South Denver weekly write-in (for anyone who is unable to get further north for those ones)? Getting an idea of the number of people interested would help me out a lot with figuring this out!

I'd definitely be interested in a weekly write-in for S. Den. Are the Perkins meetups intended to be more social than writing?

I'm free on Tuesday and Friday evenings (after 7 PM) and any time on the weekends until mid-November, after which my schedule becomes much freer and I can come to pretty much anything.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to go to anything, but I'm going to try for once.

I can't do Tuesdays (I just can't give up House and Boston Legal), and Thursdays I can only do things later in the evening.. around 7:30 or so. I'm free every other day though.

I can do any day but Mondays--looks like Fridays will be the best for us, although they MAY not pan out for me so for now I'll just play it by ear. I'd love to do some weekend write-ins, too. It's good to see some familiar faces, I look forward to more pie-eating and sheep (and writing, I guess) at Perkins!

Yeah, the Perkins ones are a more social, though writing does happen a lot. It's just that we didn't have wi-fi last year and outlets are harder to come by in restaurants. But mostly what we did in the Perkins meets were share parts of our stories, talk about trouble spots and bounce around ideas, and basically discuss what we were doing with each other to kind of take a little break and get our thoughts moving in other directions if we're stuck. A lot of us did quite a bit of writing during those as well, too, but they were definitely more social than just meeting up and writing in a group with occassional talking.

I don't know how I'll do at making the meetings because things are kind of fluid with my schedule. Monday and Wednesday nights don't work at all for me (sorry, JupiterStar! Still, don't go just by me to figure out what's best for everyone else), and Tuesdays are pretty hinky. Currently, anyway, I have Thursday, Friday, and Sunday nights off. If I can't make the meetings, I'd still love to go to the write-ins if I can.

Where is this Perkins? I don't know Glendale very well. Is it near I-25, or is it further up Colorado from there?

It's just south of I-25, the address is 1995 S. Colorado Blvd. If memory serves the cross-street is Buchtel--although I think JupiterStar probably knows best, living there and all. XD

Sweet. As long as I have the address, I can look it up online and figure out how to get there from here (or from work, if it comes to that--shudder). Thanks!

Yep, that's the address! And it's insanely easy to find even if you havent' been there before, it's on Colorado just on the south side of I-25, on the corner of Colorado and Buchtel across from the movie theaters. It's pretty much impossible to miss ^_^.

So as of now, it looks like Friday is the best bet since no one's objected to that yet, but we've got a decent amount of people who can make Wednesday or Saturday, it looks like...hopefully the other people will pipe up soon and we'll figure it out!

Oh, and it's looking like only a few of you would be interested in South Denver-specific write-ins...is that correct? (If so, I have a couple ideas for meeting places, and if not, correct me please and I'll run by some of my other ideas!)

It would be nice to have a write-in or two on the weekend or something. My work schedule won't really allow me to do anything during the week unless it was really ridiculously late. >.<

We had a lovely write in from the south denver writers meeting at a nice spacey starbucks on colfax. problem was....all their outlets were at ceiling level...seriously....think they are telling laptop users something? LOL.

Hmmmm...do you know which specific Starbucks that is, Sherrill? The outliet thing is kind of weird, but I have a superspecialawesome power strip of doom that has a cord that goes on forever and then some (I had to get it when I lived in the dorms), so it would be no problem to hook it up to one of the outlets and have it on the floor as long as I had someone tall enough to get up there ^_^. So it can't hurt to get in touch with them, right?

It's the Starbucks at Colfax & Milwaukee, the one that's shaped like a barn. I seem to remember that was a good place for a write-in, even if only 4 people showed up. I'd like to do some more write-ins this year so I don't end up writing 8000 words on November 30 like last year. XD

I also like the idea of a Saturday or Sunday afternoon write-in.

One place that might work is Stella's coffee house. It's at 1476 S Pearl St, near Pearl and Florida, just a little bit northwest of DU. They have free wi-fi and a labyrinth of rooms. One of the rooms is pretty big and has a lot of tables, and it had a reservations sign on it today, so I assume we might even be able to reserve it if there were enough of us that wanted to show up. I forgot to check the number of outlets, but there were a lot of people using laptops, so my guess is that we could find some plugs. It's in a residential area, and parking is free along the side of the street.

I am free most evenings though if I had to pick a night for the get-togethers I'd vote for Friday (that way no matter how late I stayed, I wouldn't have to worry about getting up for work in the morning).

I'm interested in doing the write-ins, though I do worry about how much work I'll actually get done during them. I haven't tried writing around other people in a long, long, LONG time. I've discovered that writing at the Starbucks inside the Barnes & Noble works well for me, especially if I have a Bing energy drink and my ipod. But, I'm willing to try another location too.

What about the Einstein Brothers on Colorado & Yale? I am pretty sure they offer free wi-fi and they seem to have a good number of tables. Not sure what kind of hours they have though. Plus, if you have a mad need to print off what you've written there's a Copymax right next store.

Unfortunately, it's extremely difficult to get enough space in that Starbucks because it's so popular. And in addition, that's the Barnes&Noble I spoke with already and that we had problems with last year, so I don't think that will work (though the Starbucks people have been nice enough...it's just extreeemely difficult to get space for at least 8 people or more there at any time except late late late at night). Einstein Brothers might work, though that's a bit of a drive for the Aurora people. I'll keep them in mind for a write-in in case that other Starbucks doesn't work (right now, that seems to be the most central location).

Stella's takes reservations now?!? When did this happen? I've never suggested them before because it's always so crowded and they never took reservations before! I'll have to give them a call to double-check...if they are actually taking reservations now, they'd be ideal except for the location and since they really aren't that out of the way (just not quite as central as a couple of other places, but not by more than like 5 minutes from anywhere), I think that might be the perfect place!

Okay, right now it looks like Fridays are the best night for the Perkins meet-up for the majority of you, with Wednesdays a close second, and Sundays the best for a weekend write-in during the day. Now I would personally prefer the Wednesday meet-ups just because on Friday November 9th I have a solo recital at 7:30, but we could easily reschedule and have a Wednesday meet that week and Friday the rest of them...does that sound like it would work for the majority of you?

Keep chiming in on what days do and don't work for you, please! I'd like to have the dates set and up on the calendar by next weekend at the latest so that we aren't deciding right before NaNo starts, but I also want your input so that as many of you as possible can attend!
