I'm from near Corydon, and I'm curious on if we got anyone on this side of the river who's Nano'ing this year? Be awesome to find someone to hang out with, maybe carpool with to write ins in Louisville, as that seems to be where we always gather. Or if someone is interested in setting up get togethers on this side of the Ohio, I'm more than willing to help out with that.

Drop a line and say hi.

Greg, here.
I'm near Galena, just at the top of the escarpment, totally new to this (I usually write non-fiction) but also looking for some psychic fellow travelers.

Have you had experience NaNo-ing?

I like coffee shops and would probably be good for some write-ins, encouragement and a splash of cold water when the caffeine isn't working.

Wow, you aren't that far from me. I live in Depauw, maybe a fifteen minute drive from Galena. *grins*

I've been doing Nano since '04, though I tend to write fanfiction(mostly cause I love the instant feedback), and it'll be fun to have someone to ride with to write ins and things. Not to mention, you are -close-. *glees*

Hot chocolate with cinnamon is a godsend during Nano.

Welcome to the madness. A hint: Do as much as you can the first week or so. Holidays -kill- your wordcount. *nods*

I'm relatively close myself. I split my time between Louisville and Jeffersonville, IN. This is my first time doing NaNoWriMo, and this will probably destroy me, as I am normally a poetry and songwriter.

By the way, name's Brian. Nice to meet everyone!

Hey there. I used to live out in Jeff, wish I still did. I think I've now gotten more replies to a thread of this type now than I've ever had in the past. Two new ones, too. Welcome aboard, and I hope you are ready for the insanity of Nano. *grins*

Edited due to the fact that which-wish so do not resemble each other.

Hiya! One of the MLs in Louisville, here! :)

You've all posted in the Louisville forum already, but I just wanted to tell you and any future posters that we would love to have you come into Louisville and write with us! Maybe you can carpool? If time and $$ don't permit it, feel free to have meet-ups closer to you if it makes it easier on you... I've really benefitted from the community aspect of NaNo, so whether it's here or there, I highly encourage it. But come to at least one Louisville event (if not more!) so you can get your official Louisville NaNoWriMo swag. :) Like the Kick-Off party! We're planning on having that on Sunday, October 21st if that helps in coordinating a carpool. Will post the official write-in schedule on the Louisville forums and here, hopefully by the end of the week.

Hope to see you guys soon. :)

Here is Louisville's official October write-in schedule :) At the October meetings people gather to get to know each other, share plots, and talk about the road ahead. You don't have to come to every meeting (though you're totally welcome to if you want to!), or be there the whole time, but come and join us when you can. Community can be very helpful and inspiring during NaNo. :)

The dates:

Saturday the 6th at Heine Brothers, 2pm-5pm

Tuesday the 9th at The Pie Pantry, 7pm-10pm
Thursday the 11th at Barnes & Noble, 7pm-11pm

Tuesday the 16th at The Pie Pantry, 7pm-10pm
Thursday the 18th at Barnes & Noble, 7pm-11pm
Saturday the 20th at Heine Brothers, 2pm-5pm

Tuesday the 23rd at The Pie Pantry, 7pm-10pm
Thursday the 25th at Barnes & Noble, 7pm-11pm
Saturday the 27th at Heine Brothers, 2pm-5pm

Tuesday the 30th at The Pie Pantry, 7pm-10pm

The addresses:
Barnes & Noble at 801 S. Hurstbourne Pkwy.
Heine Brothers at 2200 Bardstown Road at Douglass Loop in the Highlands.
The Pie Pantry at 9208 Dixie Highway, near the Dixie Highway & Johnsontown Road intersection.

Details about the Kick-Off Party to be announced soon. :)

Hi, Southern Indiana! You're invited to the Louisville Kick-Off Party, Sunday, October 21st at 5pm. Please join us at the Siegenheim Gallery at 802 E. Broadway and get to know your fellow local Wrimos... We'll have NaNoWriMo swag and fun for all participants!

Please bring yourself, plenty of enthusiasm, and if you can, an appetizer/snack or dessert to share. We’ll provide a few snacks and the beverages.

For our younger Wrimos, feel free to bring a parent. If any parent has questions as to what NaNoWriMo or the Kick-Off party is about, please have them contact the MLs and we’ll be happy to talk to you.

Please RSVP to this thread, or send nanomail to the MLs listed below
.

Gallery info and parking:

The Siegenheim is on the corner of Broadway and Shelby. It is on the left-hand side as you are coming from the Highlands towards the downtown area. The building does not have a sign, but just look for the 802. I’m hoping to put up a NaNo sign of some sort to help you out. It is a red brick building with a green and yellow painted face. There is a big rock next to it on the corner. Plus, there is a window front and you’ll see us inside.

There is plenty of street parking. If there is no parking on Broadway, turn onto Shelby and there should be plenty of parking there.

We look forward to seeing our old friends and welcoming the new!

I am from Corydon myself, as are a few of my friends at school Nano'ing. I would be really interested in getting together with some people in the area. I'd be fine heading to Louisville for meetings, or meeting a little closer to home. Yay for NaNo in dear old Southern Indiana.

*waves* Wow, big crowd this year. I live about a half hour from Corydon, and don't mind playing carpool person if we want to ride over to Louisville together, or if someone has any ideas for where to meet in Indiana....

I know a few places in New Albany area that might work, but the Louisville meets are nice to go to as well.

Hey, I'm from the N to the e to the w to the A to the l to the b to the a to the n to the y. In other words, New Albany. Howdy there!

This is my first time at both NaNo and fiction, so I'm pretty cautious and shy about the project and group write-ins.

While I usually write in the early morning dark, I am interested in occasionally 'getting out' for some fresh air and camaraderie.

There are nice places available. Treet's Bakery Cafe on Market St. in New Albany is the most hospitable place I can think of and they have evening hours. Coffee, food, baked treats and Wi-Fi available. Perkfection at Spring and Maple in Jeffersonville is also nice but not as large. Hobknobb on Paoli Pike at Scottsville Road is a similarly inviting place.

Anybody want to consider a once weekly, two-hour, no obligation get together? Tuesday or Thursday evenings would work for me.

Hey there!

I work in New Albany, does that count? I would love to get in some writing time with you!

Hey, Joyful:

To me it counts. I've not heard from any other Southern Indiana NaNo-ers to my suggestion of a one night a week session, but I'm good for it.

I work mornings and teach at IUS Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, hence my suggestion of an evening write-in.
--I did check with the owner of Treet's Bakery Cafe (across from The Grand on Market St. between Pearl and Bank Sts.) and she said Tuesday and Thursdays would be fine. There is a knitting group on Tuesday and a Scrabble gang on Thursdays, both very quiet, she said.

If you'd like to do something before heading back to Henryville (right?), I could be there by 4:30 p.m.

GW Katrina, PoSo13, sky_bird, LunaLoon5--where are you?

I would love to meet! I'm at IUS until 5 daily, but I'm good after that. Just let me know when and where, and I'll be there!

Thanks!

Sounds like a plan to me. Tuesdays work best, but I can probably get there for Thursdays as well.

*sheepish smile* Sorry. Nano site gives my comp fits, so I can only check sporatically.

So, which day are you looking at most? *wants to meet other people*

I think we should start the New Albanian Nano Writers--meaning, we should meet at RICHOS once a week.

I'll consider it. I like Roger and his brews but Joy is right, you should check with them first. I think there are enough tables out by the front doors that a crowd is unlikely, except when the van loads of Australians visiting town drop in to check the place out.

I am not sure the lighting is that good if you like working in long-hand instead of on a laptop's glowing LCD. Noise can be an issue. And I write better if I drink afterwards, not during.

These are all reasons I earlier (see previous post) suggested Treet's Cafe downtown on East Market St. across from the Grand. Quiet, comfy, well-lit, with Wi-Fi (which I don't think Rich O's has) and less heavy baked treats that go well with a cup of coffee.

Still, writing is an elusive groove and different for everybody. It could be a movable feast. I just need quiet and page focus, not chatter unless it's before or after. Tuesday or Thursday nights are still best for me.

Hey, Amanda:

You're here right now?
I checked out your website about Jerome, AZ (nice) and was left unsure if you're talking to us from out west or from the Falls of the Ohio. In either case, I heard a great local story once about vortices here, like those in Sedona, centered over the fossil beds that promote self-work and healing. Nice concept, though I can't say I've seen it affecting the long-time natives.

I'm here now, but I have not noted that in my site. I have not heard about the vortices here, even though I worked at the Falls of the Ohio for several seasons. Hmm, interesting.
Anyway, the cafe is fine, I just don't want to go to Louisville, plus I have a little one and prefer to stay close by. I have not called, but I doubt they will mind, but I think the IUS something or another meets in the front (I do prefer to be away from the smoke) on Tuesday. I work this Thursday. Maybe we can all meet on Wednesday, and then figure out the rest.
BTW, Richos does have wireless.

This Wednesday, Oct. 24, Rich O's to get acquainted and talk strategies for the insanity of NaNoWriMo? Sure, why not.

What time, between work, cooking dinner and getting the laundry done is best for all? I'm good 6 p.m. on.

Wednesday at six works for me as well. It'll be nice to see everyone without having to drive to Louisville.

That's eight who have logged on to this region. A gang of creative combatants, literary outriders, ninjas of the imagination, provocative penmen, inspired scribes, wonderful wordsmiths, aspiring novelists and literally men and women of letters.

Six o'clock at Rich O's. Bring tools and tips.

I'll be wearing the sailor's heavy weather hat and a green raincoat.

I plan to be there.

I'll be wearing red hair and something warm. I'm going home at 1 and back then to Rich O's. Unless home is too warm and toasty, then I'll be with you in spirit, so don't talk bad about me.

I'll be bringing two more with me. One hasn't switched over to this region yet, and the other is my moral support when I go rampaging about things.

See you all about six.
