Hi from Kalispell. Hope you find someone in Missoula. I'm sure there are NaNo writers there and here. Good luck and have fun. I made the 50,000 last year and am looking forward to another crazy November. (gloria)

I think being a Missoulian I'm going to write a science fiction novel about a planet which is smoky all summer and how the residents of this planet all have to battle S.A.D.D. (Smoke Affective Depression Disorder).

I'm here in Missoula, once again! Probably doing NaNo again, although I will probably decide either way come November 1...

Hi, Missoulians! If you're new to this adventure, welcome. If you've done this before (and I see some familiar names), welcome back.
So does anyone have an idea what they're going to do yet?

Well, after climbing Mount Jumbo today and seeing how beautiful Missoula is when it isn't smoked in, I've given up on the smokeworld novel. I''m now planning a science fiction adventure about a drug dealer/hit man who discovers a way through a drug he finds on an obscure planet to enter another dimension. This drug makes him invincible as a hit man. He eventually sours on a vicious war between colonists and religious extremists and decides to retire, but his old drug dealing cronies kill the love of his life, then frame "the enemy" and he goes completely nuts and slaughters untold numbes of the enemy, then he disappears and takes control of a planet of drug junkies. He creates a computer simulation of his old flame and empowers it with so much programming power that it becomes sentinent, and it secretly hates him because he doesn't love it, but loves what it's supposed to be, so it creates a series of confrontations between the hit man and the remnants of the "enemy." The hit man, who is now wealthy beyond his wildest dreams by controlling the drug trade of the galaxy, sends his armada to destroy the old enemy, but at the last minute, he rediscovers what little humanity he has left and tries to recall the armada. The program decides "If I can't have him, no one else can," and our anti-hero enters a final battle with the computer simulation he created himself.
Phew!
OK, I got some plot holes to work on, now!

I think I'm gonna do a urban fantasy about a woman who finds out that she's a succubus.
I can't wait, so I am spending lots of time in google docs, fleshing out characters.

That's funny, Pierre. Sounds like one of those "coop" novels where several writers each contribute a couple of paragraphs and the next one picks up the story and makes a contribution. Doug in Missoula

Hey! I'm currently living New York, but I'm a Missoulian since toddlerhood, and the only time I won NaNo was back in 2003, when I worked graveyards under the Big Sky. Just saying howdy to my people back home. Good luck, all of you!

Hi. I'm from Missoula. This is my first time and I'm kind of nervous. Well, actually I tried to write 50000 words in July just to see if I could do it before I signed up for the real thing.
I've been looking around the site and it seems like tons of people already have their plots planned out and ready to go. I'm not going to know even what genre I'm writing in until November 1.
In previous years, have people gotten together somewhere to write? I'd like to be part of that, if it does happen. I'm trying to get a couple of friends to join me in novel writing craziness, but they both live in other states so we can't get together.

We're halfway through this month already. When did that happen? Okay, guys. Who's up for a meet and greet in two weeks at Liquid Planet, say around 2 pm? Our official goodies should be here by then.

Sounds like a plan! You may want to email a reminder, though, because I will almost definitely forget.

I'm making one of my frequent trips to Missoula and will be hanging out 11/7 to the morning of 11/10. Do you think there would be any meet ups in that time? I don't want to fall behind while I'm traveling!!

Lilygirl -- I can meet up with you one of those days if you like, although we won't be having an "official" meeting then. Let me know!

I haven't had a chance to visit the Barnes & Noble yet, but don't they have a great little coffee shop there or somewhere around that store? I'd love to meet you and any other Missoula Wrimos who have the time. I'm scheduled to have dinner in various places so I'll have most the daytime free (very good for my word count) and at least one evening open, but I'm not sure which yet.

We can definitely figure something out. Maybe the new Hastings will be open by then, too. They're supposed to have a cafe. Barnes and Noble would be good, also. And there's always Liquid Planet or The Break.

I have a friend that works at Hastings, and he says that the new cafe is going to be really nice with couches, chairs and a fire place. So, if a change in scene is needed, that would be a good alternative to Liquid Planet or B&N.

It's on Brooks ST (or do you think of it as HWY 12) just east of Reserve... kind of behind the mall
