Hullo, Im Jessica I live in grande prairie alberta, this is my fourth year attempting nano...T_T I have yet to complete it do to the fact something always manages to get in the way (last year my whole body rebelled, I spent a week of november in the hospital :P) Anyways this seems to be my year for goal setting so I am determined to finish this year. I've actually been working on the idea for this novel for a loooong time, the original concept was designed by my friend and he's letting me write it. WOO! >> okay Im done rambling on.

Hey to everyone here. :D Name's Michelle. I'm a newbie from Wetaskiwin, I heard about NaNoWriMo last year, was interested, but was sadly too late for sign-ups. D: I tacked down a large NaNoWriMo sign on my wall to remind me, though so here I am! :DD
Anywho, I write fanfiction mostly and I've rarely tried writing original fiction so this'll be a lot of good practice for me. Plot bunnies aren't forming just yet, but I'm sure the forums will provide some sort of muse eventually. :DD
Hope we'll all be good friends and such~

Hello everybody! I'm from a little tiny town in southern alberta called Vauxhall. I'm an hour from lethbridge, an hour from Medicine Hat, and almost an hour from Brooks, to give you an idea. I'm really excited about my plot this year, it is a story that a friend and I have been planning to co-write for about 5 years. We want to turn it into a trilogy, and each of us are following different characters for book one, which will be my nano project. I've had this plot in my head for long enough that i can't wait to start writing it!
...and i have to admit that i'm doing it now because it going to be easier for me because it has had 5 years of planning, so all i have to do is sit down and write it. this is my 3rd attempt and this year i am finishing it no matter what!
If anyone from southern AB is on this forum, let me know where you're from, i do alot of travelling back and fourth across this whole province and it would be fun to meet some fellow nanowrimos.

Hi! I'm a newbie; this'll be my first year attempting this. I'm from Red Deer, which is in Central Alberta, right in between Calgary and Edmonton (we're an hour and a half from each of them). I'm a student here at Red Deer College--I'm going for my Bachelor of Education (Secondary Studies), majoring in English and minoring in Drama. So... yeah. I'm looking forward to this--even if I don't make the 50,000 word mark, which I doubt I will this time, but I'm sure it'll be fun.

Ah, the forums are back, and they're working like a charm. Maybe now I can say hello to our most recent round of writers!
Kuro: Welcome back, Jessica! I'm sorry to hear about your problems last year (I hope it wasn't stress from writing!), but I'm glad you've returned. Hopefully, your health is more cooperative this time. And don't forget that those previous four NaNos were well-spent -- you've got some practice under your belt now!
I know Diane's going to be hosting a few writer's meets in Valleyview, and if you can make the drive, I know she'd be glad to have you visit. And if you stay in Grande Prairie, don't forget that Esquire's (by the Holiday Inn) has wi-fi access, and it's open until 23h00 -- perfect for an evening of writing out. (If there's a better place that's opened up since I was there last, let me know!)
j.a.d.: Hi there, Michelle! It's always good to see new people -- especially when those had to wait twelve months to get here. Get ready to be amazed by your own abilities -- my first stab at writing was fanfic for the computer game "Interstate '76" (shhh... don't tell the Edmowrimos that), and it was fun, but as soon as that creative wellspring opened up with original material, it was everything I liked about fanfic and ten times more.
Jenny: Welcome aboard to the chaos of NaNoWriMo! Don't sell yourself short before you start, okay? You definitely have the ability to finish your novel this month -- college students have a lot of work to do, true, but the truth is that there's no one more talented at turned six words into sixty. So long as you can turn off your internal editor and just spew the words out without mopping them up, you'll be fine.
(Um, sorry about the analogy.)
Hm. That's two in central Alberta already, and I'm sure there'll be more to come. Hopefully we can organise a writer's meet there. Michelle might even be able to make it in from Wetaskiwin...
DaniRae: You're right, Vauxhall is a tiny little town. Fortunately, it's an equally small world. Go Vikings!
...no, I'm not from Vauxhall, but one of my friends grew up there, and he's shown me around the place once or twice. I live in Medicine Hat, so there's certainly a chance that we'll cross paths next month... that's what this forum's for, after all!
By the way, there's still plenty of room in this thread. Come on in, everyone, and say hello!

Hello all, ANd Esp. to our MLs.
I'm in Red Deer, also. IT's going to be a busy NaNo this year as I'm a distance education and working part time and I am a full time mom and wife. I've got my work cut out for me. But I only failed in my first NaNO back in 2001. I've done 3 successful ones since then. And I've got a few solid plots perculating in my mind. We'll see which one sticks come November.
Hopefully I can make it to a meet up in Red Deer this year. I haven't yet because my work hours are screwy.
Look ing forward to November.

Hello everyone,
My name is Scarlett and this my first time with nano. I am looking forward to the challenge. I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. I have 2 teenagers and live on a farm with my husband. I also work part-time as an IT in the local computer shop, no I will not fix your computer over the phone or internet! Now that we have that issue out of the way ...
All joking aside, I look forward to meeting some fellow nano Albertans.

Hi ya'll! I'm Niki, from Grande Prairie!
I participated in NaNo last year for the very first time, and I finished! A little over 52,000 by the 28th! I was so proud of myself.
If you're in Grande Prairie (especially attending the college), drop me a line! I'd love to have NaNo nights at Bernie's in the college! Heck, I'm happy to get together in my dorm, as I'm living in Residence this year. I'll totally provide the hot chocolate!
So yeah, drop me a line if you're close by and let's sprint!

Hey All,
My name is dots (seriously everyone calls me that) and this is my second attempt at NaNo. I live in Canmore so I tend to float more around Calgary Area but if anyone's from the Banff/Canmore/Kananaskis area let me know!
This year both myself and my fiance will be doing NaNo together (although he doesn't lurk the forums like I do), me writing Chick-Lit (for the first time ever) and he doing some sort of crime/vigilante story. Hopefully we'll both succeed!

Doesn't seem like there's very many people around, huh? I mean, from the GP area. This is a huge city! I'm sure there are more of us. Maybe I need to put out posters on the bulletin boards at school and offer out hot chocolate in exchange for NaNo sprinting-esc parties at my dorm!
The more the merrier!

Two more from GP here!
Myself: Candice, trying out my second NaNo in GP. Hopefully work is less stressful this year. Please let me know if there are any big writing parties planned (I'm a huge fan of Esquires, personally) as I'd love to meet up with some fellow stress-ees!
Also, my roomie is NaNoing for the first time this year and I'm sure she'd appreciate the support!

Hey guys! My name's Melissa, and this'll be my fourth year for NaNo, hopefully I'll complete this year, haha was waayyy too busy last year. I've completed it the other two tries just barely making it over the total both times. Haha, just get into a huge panic in the last week and write like mad until I make it! Since I almost forgot about it this year, I still have no plot or idea what I'm gunna do, so it should be an interesting few weeks as I scramble to make characters and plot. If I get lucky it might even make sense!
Nice to meet others out there! See you guys around!

Hello Everybody!
I'm Loni and I'm presently living in Atikameg near High Prairie. I'm new! I read about this site on 43 things and signed up for the reminder email which came yesterday, so then I signed up to write a 50,000 word novel!?! because I've had thoughts of writing a book when I retire because then I might have the time, but this called me! I've read that I should have an outline but I don't actually start writing until 12:01 AM on Nov.1. That's what I know now.

People just keep showing up, and I couldn't be happier. Welcome, everyone! I notice a few familiar names in the list -- yes, asrai, I'd really like to see a Red Deer meeting, too. It's great to see writers from smaller places as well (Canmore, Cold Lake, High Prairie, etc.). These are all locations which play an important part in this province, and it's important to me that people from these places have just as much of a home for NaNoWriMo as the writers in Edmonton and Calgary. So, if you have any questions, ask. If there's a topic you'd like to talk about, create it. This forum's yours to use.

Hello Alberta Elsewhere!
I did my first Nano last year; I am trying to get things in order in my life to free up time in November this year. I don’t have a plot or theme but don’t see that as a problem; a sprinkling of fairy dust and then I’ll be set for Nano 2007.
One big advantage I have this year over last is that I have now mastered the semi-colon.
Nice to see the new names and the old names too :-)

Hello everyone,
I'm Jeremy, I live near Jasper, and this will be the first year that I try my hand at NaNoWriMo. I've no idea as to what I'm going to write, the sorts of characters that'll interface, or anything of the sort. I've never set myself down to write anything, before now that is. Thanks to the extremely positive and encouraging NaNoWriMo emails, thank you Denton, I'm going to have a go at all of this. It is to be hoped that everyone reaches their goals, this year.
Regards,
----------Jeremy

Hello, my name is Dane and I'm an alcholo... oops, wrong place... ;)
Anyways, my name is Dane, and I'm from Vegreville - the home of the world's largest pysanka(easter egg). This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo. I've heard about it a few years ago but was too late to sign up for it. Right now I have a basic idea of what my novel is going to be, what with the current working title of "Apocalypse Wow! Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying And Love The End of the World". Basically it's going to have the protagonist fighting various tribes of zombies, werewolves, and scattered humam survivors who have gone back to basic survival methodology. Anyways, good luck to my fellow Albertans as we throw caution and our sanity into the wind. Booyah! Once more unto the breach... :)

Hi everyone! I'm Kerri and this is my second nano - Diane and I and a few other Valleyviewians had a blast last year (we had some long-distance fun with Denton too *wink* jk) and I can't wait for this November. This year, I am actually starting with a rough plot in my head...last year, I started and re-started after I discovered that I hated my original idea. I actually procrastinated a whole lot and didn't do most of my 50K until the last week of November...so, if you're struggling mid-November - don't give up!

Hiya
I'm Zoe. I live in Red Deer. This is my first first nanowrimo. I'm going to college and I work full time but I still want to make the commitment to writing a novel in a month. Actually I'm really lucky cuz my job is not that busy and I spend most of my day playing on my laptop anyway so I might as well do something constuctive. Lately I've been writing a lot of Fan fiction but I want to try workin on something of my own. I'd luv to meet some other Red Deer writers.

Hey everyone!
I'm Cassandra, and I've been doing NaNoWriMo since 2003, though I skipped last year due to being extremely busy. I was successful my first year, but haven't had too much luck since. I'm in Lethbridge doing my third year of fine arts, I absolutely love it. I have no idea what I'm going to write about this year, but lately I've been reading more and more non-fiction, so I'm thinking of writing a fiction novel largely based on my own experiences, an imaginary portrait. I live with a musician, a wannabe chef and a pilot, so I'm sure things could get interesting in my novel.

Hi, I'm Meghan and I'm from Lethbridge. I work at a photo studio and the Gap (because the discount is hard to give up, damn you nice things). This is my second year at NaNoWriMo, the last time I attempted I decided that yes I could work part time, go to school full time and design a production at the University. It was awesome. Needless to say the novel did not get done. I hope to do better this time.

Hi everyone!
I'm Kathleen, I just moved to Alberta two weeks ago from Kelowna! Now I'm a current resident of Black Diamond (Huge city to tiny town, what a change!) My friend got me interested in NaNoWriMo although looking around I'm not sure what I've gotten myself into! That' s okay though because my whole reason for taking this year off (I just graduated from High school last June) was to spend the year writing! I almost tried the Three Day Novel Contest back in September but then I chickened out, I figure I can use this to work up to it for next year! ;) If anyone is in the foothills area I'd love to get together, keep in mind I have idea where I am on a map. I've just sort accepted my fate in the middle of nowhere!
