Not quite for me. I did have my story switch genres mid-NaNo last year though. I decided I like the subplot better than the plot.

What is the story about?

i wasn't even thinking about genre. my subconscious must be an aspiring comedian. (i mean, i've always had elements of humour in my work-- but nothing solely written for the sake of being funny..)

plot? good question.

the general premise is a sort of biographical-- a 'rockumentary'-- the novel will follow around minor punk rock group 'coffin up phlegm' as they support legendary leeds act 'goldfish bowl' on their first ever us tour. crazy things will happen. (i have a list.) it will be written with a mixture of prose and various documents such as e-mails, letters, newspaper articles, police reports. i don't have much other than that.

This year I'm going to be bumming around three genre forums, because my story is sci-fi, fantasy and, god willing, it'll be funny.

Mainly because I can't decide what causes my world to be abnormal... I have what may turn out to be sentient airplanes for god's sake! Hoorah for semi-fantasy/sci-fi absurdism...

oh you guys sound like me last year. i was doing a sci-fi mystery comedy (fantasy too, i suppose.. i guess it was sci-fantasy.. mystery comedy?). i didn't end up visiting very many genre lounges though, go fig.

i can't think of what other genre this year's one will be, though. ): contemporary? mainstream? other genre? bleh.

My story this year is relatively uncomplicated . . . so I guess it's genre has to make up for it!
It's impossible for me to write anything simple.

Looks like another person who is using multiple genres.
Both last year and this year, I had novels that were your typical paperback fiction, but also were very humorous and needed sci-fi to explain them.
This year I decided to focus more on the plot, but that's not going to stop the humor from rolling.

As for the title, how about "Tales of a Sideshow Music Group (Complete with Actual Police Reports!)"

I like long titles.

I don't think you could do much better for a title than Coffin Up Blood, really.

As for my genre... Funny is my natural idiom, unless somebody asks me to be funny, in which case I suddenly cease to be. But when I'm plinking away at my keyboard in my room at night, I have difficulty avoiding humor. Life is so highly absurd, when you really look at it, that trying not to be comedic is like trying not to see the ground. It's extremely difficult, and you trip and look stupid if you try. If you look at just about any "literature," by which I mean things they make you read for school because they're good, there will be at least some element of humor. Otherwise it would be really boring.

I just put humor down as my category because I don't want to skulk around the fantasy forums with those who refuse to read anything not involving a dragon.

I don't know why I don't spend more time in this forum. I mean, I can't stay serious for more than a page, I end up writing funny whether I'm trying to or not. :p Whatever. I guess it just comes naturally, or something.

I'm here again too. Last year I started writing a futuristic sci-fi religious mystery, so naturally I gravitated into the Humour forums. I ended up writing a detective story about a loser named Dryden Bernt, which did not reach my 50,000 word goal. Very disappointing, but I had a good time.

Oh! I almost forgot something! This year, before I make one more post, I hereby swear the following...uh, swear-thingy (y'know, a whatchamacallit): *ahem* I hereby swear, before Gawd and my peers, that I will [b]not[/b] start a war with the Erotic/Romance forum(s) this year.

There, that's my swear-thingy-whatchamacallit.

I further promise not to start wars with any of the other forums, nor to join in on any wars with other forums that have been started by others.

P.S. "Gawd" is the name of my TV set. (It used to be "Gawdy" but the Y fell off.)

i have a title! "on tour with coffin up phlegm: a rockumentary". and a vague sort of plot. and by plot i mean "scribbles on torn up bits of post it", of course.

i totally get what you guys are saying about being unable to avoid comedy (obviously); it really is incredibly hard being serious or so i find, which just means that whenever people are all, "oh drama's easier than comedy, nothing's harder than making people laugh" my ego swells by oh, about 10%, every single time.

Man, I'm with you, I start out serious and end up wiped out on the floor trying to get a grip on myself . . . I just left my heroine of the first paragraph, whom the story is not really about anyway, training pigs on the city limits of Lubbock, Texas. Well, I had to get rid of her some way . . . and since her sensai, a phony Greek Orthodox priest in the witness protection progran who promised to kick her freak husband's butt and restored her faith that all men were not swine, is actually one of the major minor characters of my novel. I used her. Let her introduce the Father and then kicked her out of bed.

Lubbock is as full of contradictions as Lamesa, where I reside. Go flatlanders.
