Stop in and say hello and toss out an introduction!

I am from McComb, where I live with my five (yes, five!) dogs: my Toy Fox Terriers Beau, Cajun, Holly, and Drew; as well as my Rough Collie, Glitter. In addition to doing freelance writing and editing, I also show my dogs and compete with them in obedience trials. I usually write paranormal fiction, but this year I am trying a cozy mystery. What better time than NaNoWriMo to try something completely different? I'm trying to do some advance planning, but so far haven't gotten a word of it done. This year I will be a participant for the fourthh time and a municipal liaison for the third time.

How about you all?

Hi, All ~

I'm in Jackson with my hubby, daughter, 7 cats, 1 dog and 2 hermit crabs. This is my first NaNoWriMo and I'm very excited. I have been playing with ideas for a medieval fantasy for about ten years and have decided to get serious about actually getting the story written. I'm hoping this will get me motivated to put the words down on paper.

Can't wait to meet all you fellow Mississippians!

Hi! I'm from Jayess, between McComb and Tylertown. I live with my parents and my cat, Sylvester. He thinks he's the king, he does. I'm a senior in high school, and the only thing I do after school (I get out at lunch) is work in the school library. We don't have a librarian, just a room with books randomly strewn about it. I'm working on organizing it. (shudder, shudder. lol) Usually I only write fanfiction, both Harry Potter and Star Trek. I had never heard of NaNo until last Thursday, when a fanfic author I beta for suggested I look into it. So, naturally, this is my first year. Just couldn't pass it up.

I will be a temporary Mississippi resident for most of October and the second half of November, does that count? I will be in the Columbus area (on a business trip). This will be my first NaNo away from home (and fourth nano overall).

As for the introduction, here it is : I live in Canada (province of Quebec). I usually write some weird mix of fantasy/science-fiction. For the past three NaNos, I wrote the same novel (titled "The Cartography Bureau") every time. This year will be different : I will be working on a fantasy novel taking place in a universe similar to Ancient Greece. The outline is mostly done (a few gray areas remain, but that's about it). The novel will be written in both English and French (the English version is about 5,000 words done out of 100,000, and the month of November will be spent writing the French version from scratch).

French is my first language. I usually live with two cats : a female Hymalayan called Nelly and a regular, common male named Google. They are currently not living with me due to my crazy schedule.

Lived in Biloxi for a year and was "adopted' by some Cajuns that thought I was "cute" enough to drag home to Brookhaven. Of course Ma wouldn't let them keep me since who knew where I'd been so I had to go to the Naughty Pines, but there's 180 of us up here in Eastern Washington so pleased to meet ya and come on up for a challenge if you find yourselves in need of a word count boost.

What?! Am I the only writer in Southaven? And, why do we call it Southaven, when it's the very northernmost city in MS? Good luck to all. Keep the words flowing!

Hello everyone,

I live in Hattiesburg. I have 2 newf/aussie mixes, River and Memphis. I participated last year and was a loser. I only wrote for one day and quit. I will be a winner this year. I'm still trying to decide between an idea I've been kicking around for a few years about a polyamorous triad and their mob relatives on the MS Gulf Coast or a cozy with a birder protaganist set on Dauphin Island. And I'm going to try to work in some challenges from the forum.

BTW Daft,

My favorite twist on the "mile in another's shoes" saying is, "Never criticize a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. So if he wants to hit you, you have a mile head-start and his shoes."

Hi all -

I've been sort-of participating in NaNoWriMo for a long time now. I always have big plans, and I always start, but I've never made it through to the end. Maybe this year will be different. I write horror/fantasy. I'm torn between working on one of my other nano novels or starting a new one this year.

I live in Flowood, not far from Dogwood Mall. I have 3 dogs and a cat. I used to live in Brookhaven, and my brother still lives there.

I hope we can get together sometime. I would love to meet fellow Mississippi Nano-ers. :o)

Hi everyone! I live in Louisville, which is in the center of the state. I'm two hours north of Jackson. I have one dog and he is very supportive to my writing. He makes sure to lay in the room with me and snort encouragement every so often. This will be my fifth nano. I have won twice, and crashed and burned twice.

This year, I have a great MC that I adore. I have her backstory all planned out. Usually I write alternate history/fantasy type novels. This year, I plan to keep it grounded in reality. That's the plan. Once the writing starts, anything goes. :)

It is so great to meet all of you. Good luck on your novels.

Hi! I live in Bogue Chitto with my husband and our son.

This is my first NaNoWriMo, and I have high hopes that I'll develop some new and better writing habits (which will include actually finishing the book before I use my red pen to make a hopeless mess of it). I'll be working on an idea I have for a paranormal.

Greetings everyone! I'm in a lovely historic town in Mississippi. This is my second year of NaNo goodness, and I can hardly wait for it to start again. As with last year, I'm trying my hand at a genre that I've never written before Thriller/Drama. This will be fun.

Hi! I'm Claire (ah, the beauty of pen names!), I'm seventeen-years-old, and I live on the southernmost edge of Mississippi.

I've been told all my life that I'm an excellent writer, and while my ego isn't inflated enough to agree with them, it's big enough for me to know that this is what I'm good at. ;]

I've got big plans for this year's NaNoWriMo (and my first NaNoWriMo, coincidentally), and I actually hope to get a headstart on my dreams of a career as an author, as well as sculpting my writing skills and style. I've chosen to write a novel in the Satire, Humor & Parody category, I have every intention of going through with this, and I've promised myself that it WILL get done!

I hope to get to know some of you better over the next month, and good luck with your novels! :]

Hi! Everyone this is my first year. I have one book published, a childrens mystery, The Ghosts on the Hill. I've been working on another, actually several. The way my mind works is complicated. During my first NaNoWriMo I'm going to try a Sci-Fi/Fantasy type book for kids or older. Not sure exactly. Everyone has asked me what my next book is going to be about and I tell them what I know, which is only what is written. I have to guess the rest. I'm located in Meridian, MS. I take care of an physically challenged parent, my other half (closest to a husband as I'll ever have again), my 13 year old son, four dogs-Red, Keyweed, Blackjack, and Ms. Penny, oh and then last but not least Spazz (our cat with an attitude). Not too mention all of our friends, who seem to flock to me when they need a shoulder to cry on, an ear to rant at, or just someone who cares.

Well, hey there folks! You'd think that as NaNo WriMo has been every November for more than a few years now, I'd be right on top it. But then again, since I'm always surprised when my own birthday rolls around, maybe it's understandable why I'm playing catch up. And did you know that Christmas is in December this year?

I live above Starkville, on 500+acres where my landlords raise hay (a nice way of saying, 'weeds') on a former diary farm. My pupsicles are Shaddow (a six year old black lab who is sweet and gentle and friendly) and Ziggee (a four year old rat-cha who is energetic! and excited! and friendly!~~but is so NOT a yippee dog). My guy lives up near Oxford, so we're about an hour and a half apart; but he comes to see me almost every weekend. Since he is working on his dissertation's proposal at this point, it is rare that I gain access to the computer on the weekends.

My mother is coming from out of state to visit with me for a few days, starting around the 5th. We plan to bake bread and cookies (as is our tradition) and listen to books on tape while crafting (I need to finish crochet'ing her bibbed apron before she gets here; her 60th birthday is at the end of October this year). So I'll have a few days of scant computer contact at that time.

Well, ya know, it looks like I'm whittling my available time down some. That just means I'll have to be very productive and make the most out of the time I do have! After all, other people have spouses, babies, families, school, work, and lives. I ought to be glad I have none of those things. grins, debra

Hey, I'm Karin. I live in Clinton with two cats, BB & Raven.

This is my 6th year to do Nanowrimo, but I only finished the first two years. It's gotten progressively worse ever since. I'm still optimistic about this year, probably because the idea for my novel this time is so ridiculous that I can't wait to try to make it work. Not really sure what genre it would fall into; I just know I have a lot of research to do between now and November 1.

Hello all!

I live and teach in Jackson. I've been writing some fanfiction (Harry Potter being my fandom; nice to see another HP fan here), and I've had this original plot floating around in my head for months. It's something of a cross between paranormal romance and urban fantasy. This is my first NaNoWriMo, and I'm really excited. I'm really behind on my planning, so I don't know if I'll achieve 50,000 words next month, but it'll be fun to try!

Hi, I'm Caitie Jo. I'm new to the state (lived here for 3 months today). I work in McComb so a write in there would work for me. This is my fourth nano. I've got a bizarre idea for my novel and an outline, but who knows. Basically it's about a guy who wins the 2000 election by a landslide (no hanging chads...). Once in office he turns out to be someone entirely different than who the American people thought they elected and it goes downhill from there. For all I know I could be headed for certain doom. But it's NaNoWriMo and anything can happen. Right?

Hey everyone! My name is Phillip and I live in Biloxi. This is my third time attempting Nanowrimo, but I plan to finish this time around. My life has come to a more stable point and I'm ready for this 50k in 30 days madness this year. I used to bum around the country alot but now I'm back on the coast where I grew up and I'm sucking up the responsibility of my legal obligations, etc. The anticipation is killing me.. come on November 1st!

If, by chance, there are any young writers on the coast attempting this feat of insanity this year please email me so we can see about planning a once a week meeting at a bookstore or the library or some such venue. The more people we get involved in this deal the less likely we'll suffer from lack of things to scribble down and/or procrastination!

Hello, everyone. I'm from New Orleans, but I'm attending MSU, and this is my second year attempting WriMo. Last year I didn't pass 5 pages, but this year I'm hoping to go all the way. I'm working on a Science Fantasy story and have been developing it since before last year's WriMo actually, and I think I'm finally at a point where I can get a lot written. And if that doesn't pan out I've got a few other ideas. Anyway, good luck to everyone.

Hi, I'm Julie and I live in Natchez. I've lived here for about 29 years, ever since I got married.

This is my second year-didn't finish last year, hoping to finish this year.

I have a toy pomeranian, getting older, an old tortie cat and a new b/w kitten who is extremely energetic and playful.

Oh, and there is the husband, too ;) , two grown kids, a son in law, a grandson and a granddaughter on the way.

Hey y’all. I’m Kris from Hattiesburg, formerly from Gulfport. (I’ll give you three guesses why I had to make the move.) I share my new life with Patrick my incredibly supportive husband. Haiku and Eeyore are my not so supportive cats and Sage the African Grey is my feathered alarm clock. I’ve dabbled with writing most of my life, but have only recently gotten serious about it. Thus far my dabbling has ran the gambit from fantasy to sci-fi to romance. I’ve chosen to return to my Southern roots for my first NaNo attempt because I know if I get stuck inspiration is just a phone call away. Luckily the good lord has blessed me with a sense of humor, great friends and a huge family. Hmmm…maybe that’s why I needed the sense of humor.

Howdy everybody. I'm Jennifer from Hattiesburg, where I live with my aloe vera plant Vera(named after a gun from the sci-fi show Firefly, because I really am that geeky). This is my second year doing NaNoWriMo, and will hopefully be my second win. I find it impossible to focus on one story at a time, so I will be attempting to write three separate pieces. The first is a series of letters written between two sisters, set in a neo-Victorian steampunk era. The second is your basic fantasy story: chosen one, realizes true potential, saves the world yadda yadda yadda. The third story is set in the 1930s, and focuses on a group of bootleggers attempting to rescue their friend from the mafia. Pinstriped suits=win.

Good luck to everybody!

Hay ya'll!

I'm from Richton--well--actaully I'm from between Richton and Waynesboro. Looks like I'm the only one from this area. ^^ I have 7 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 horses. I'm a high school senior tryin' to get a top 3 spot in my class, and hopefully write 50K by Novembers end. I've been told I'm a pretty good writer, but too modest to admit if I have any (if at all) talent at it. This will be my first NaNo. I'm goin' to put my best effort forward; however, with all the junk I have to do this month, I might have only one week to accomplish 50K. But I'm gonna try anyway! Wish me luck! ^^

well, I'm not a real "MS" Nano, since I live in VA. However I come down to the Meridian area a couple times a year to visit with family. Last year my book almost wrote itself. THIS year nothing is coming. I'm down to putting emails into it as a rather lame plot device. Emails between my "supposed" author and her editor, all about how the fictional author is also having writers block. Hey, I've gotten 5k words in the last 2 days doing that. It means that I don't really have to pay a lot of attention to what my story characters are supposed to be doing. I'm kind of working some of the things that have been going on in my life the last couple of years and adding some stuff that is totally fictional to the email parts. And actually I'm enjoying that a lot more than the stupid novel. (Rotten characters, just sitting around and making faces at me and looking bored. See if I do anything for THEM again.)
