Hey! I'm at the Cirencester end of Gloucestershire. Nano-ing for the first time.

I would say being a student is always a good thing - it was a while ago for me, but good times...what I remember of them!

I'm from Dursley, NaNo-ing and indeed novel-writing for the first time.

I'm hoping to get a lot of support from these forums, as I must confess to being a teensy bit nervous about the whole thing. I have a pretty stroppy inner critic that I'm going to struggle to shut up.

I also have another worry that nobody seems to mention. See, I taught myself to touch-type a couple of months ago ready for this, but I really don't know if I can physically type for an hour or two! Normally, when I'm writing stuff at work, I'm editing as I go, and I don't have to type solidly for long periods.

Do you think this will be a problem? Should I start practising now?!

I'm in Nailsworth and working full time. I won nano last year working full time so this year I'm trying for an extra 20,000 words - that's right 70,000 words in 30 days...

I'm a student too, in Cheltenham, although I'm on a BEd course. I'm NaNoing for the first time too, although I've been part of a group who's done it regularly for a while, I just haven't had a go myself.

I used to write a lot when I was younger, but got out of the habit, so I'm hoping this will get me back into the swing of it so to speak. It also means I can put something in my writing journal for the English segment of my course.

So I'm really looking for to it.

Hey, I'm from Cheltenham and this is my first nanowrimo (though I know this is also the year in my life I have the least time but ah well :D haha)

I love writing, but I find it really hard to get going with any of my ideas. I tend to over-analyse what I write, so I'm hoping this will help me just get the stuff down on paper before I rip it to shreds...

I'm in Nailsworth at the moment but I'm from Dursley. Small world hey. This is my first time though I've been creative writing since I could pick up a crayon and scribble. Think this might be a tall order for me though but knowing people have achieved it before means I can't really find any excuses not to give it a damn good go.

Hey. This will be my first time, so am pretty scared. I'm usually a total perfectionist when it comes to writing so every fiber of my being will be screaming "Edit!" the whole time I'm sure. Anticipating some kind of coffee-induced creative melt-down around week two hehe.

I'm also a creative writing student in Cheltenham. What year are you in?

LOL...I'm really enjoying it. Been out of 'school' for something like ten years, so its a bit of a shock to the system, but at the same time, I'm finding some of it really easy too. Got something like 5 essays due this month though, so I'm trying to get them done now, plus I'm a first year student rep. Its all go, I swear ;)

Going to this month's Slak for the first time, I think :) Will you be there? :)

You sound a lot busier than I was in my first year!

I'm... not a student of creative writing, but my boyfriend is so I'm hoping some of his talent will rub off on me! Doing this mainly to force my brain to be a bit quicker, also for the fun of it and the excuse to drink copious amounts of coffee. Plus it gets me socialising with people who aren't actuaries!

Looking forward to meeting some of you hopefully (met Kai in Slaks tonight, some horribly gifted people in there, am feeling distinctly jealous). And also to getting an email from Neil! Woo!

One of the few pieces of advice I've truly gotten behind is that no one is untalented. Seriously. And I was even feeling rather green with envy last night, and I've been at this for over eight years now (not the Nano, writing).
Just come out, like you said, meet some nice people, and have fun, cause ultimately, that's the best part. Course the writing bit is the better part, but I could just be very warped, wierd and generally odd ;)

:)

Hello,
I just found the Gloucestershire part of this site... I haven't done this before but then again I've been writing novels on and off since I was old enough to write (not very good ones to start with, admittedly!) with a few years 'off' writing plays. I also work full time so I'm seeing lots of late nights ahead of me! ;)
I'm in Ruscombe (near Stroud) so is anyone organising a Stroud-y meet up? Failing that I work in Cheltenham so could come along to meetings there (and may do even if there is a Stroud group, so long as they don't clash).
Anyway I just wanted to say hello :)

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to take part after all. I've got my teaching practise in the middle of the month so there's no way I'm going to be able to give my all to that and NaNo.

Hopefully I'll be able to have a go next year.

Hi everyone.

I live in Slimbridge, work in Cheltenham.

I'm still trying to work out why I'm doing NaNo, since I already have more unfinished novels than is healthy for anyone (34, at last count, with anything from a few thousand to 200,000 words in them). So, obviously, starting yet another is my best bet, especially with an insanely demanding schedule...

Unfinished at 200,000 words? Wow! That's going to be quite some doorstop when it's finished & printed ;)

But starting another one is always a great idea! (I have a five book series on the go, but for November it doesn't get touched. Well, not unless I've already finished the nanonovel - a girl can dream...)

LOL...yep, nice to see a similarly minded soul kicking around. Had 50 novels on my pc, 10 finished, and then the backup drive....well...it err...exploded, so I'm piecing everything back together. Its quite good fun, but still in its early stages :)

Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight! Look out for the stupidly LOUD green tshirt.
