UEL
CLEARLY you are COUNTY!
Of course you can!
*waving to Jennifer*
Jennifer (see above, first post and the creator of this region) and I belong to a writing group here in the County... there may be a couple more join from that group. I think we are going to have a lot of fun. I'm getting excited, the closer it gets! Did you used to live here?

Kaaren,
I've never lived in the County. My Mom grew up on Huyck's Point road. She left in the '60s to work, met my Dad and married. In the '90s, when my Dad retired, they moved back to the County. My brother lived there for a while, and my sister still lives in Picton. I'm the only one in my family to not have lived in the County.
I'll be in the Ottawa valley most of the month of November, so perhaps I can make a weekend to visit my parents and get in a quick writing session!
Cheers

Hi Kaaren
Hello UEL
and hello again shoegazer
Still trying to figure out how everything works. So now I know that this is how I post to this forum. Woo hoo.
Spent the last week in frustration - unable to load anything from the site - takes ages for everything. Yuck.
Glad it is faster now.
Does anyone know exactly how to post words once the start dates passes?
And, Kaaren - have you seen Darlene, Katy or Victoria here? I am waving and smiling.

Absolutely!
Glad you can join. Looking forward to getting everything rolling. What keeps you busy up in Madoc? Was up that way last weekend, the colours were beautiful.

Hi Jennifer. Havent seen any of the others here yet, might just be you and I? I wave and smile in return. I tried to do a few things here last week, and like you found it slow, and frustrating and I wasnt even sure i was able to log in correctly. Sounds like some changes have been made, so I will try again!
Getting geared up!

Word count is easy. You save your document into a text file, upload it to the site and it will do the word count for you. You can do this daily.
In years past, until the last five days, you could also manually type in your word count.

Hello Everyone,
It's Darlene! I tried to change my log in to my real name, but I can't figure out how, so I'll remain julkat for now. It's taken me almost two weeks of occasional searching to find all of you! Waviing to Jennifer and Kaaren!!
I'm so glad that there are more people here than just the three of us - makes it even more fun. I don't think we'll see Katy, but perhaps we'll see Victoria. Any word on Ally?
Two weeks - whoo hoo!
Bye for now,
Darlene

Glad to know that Madoc is close enough :D
School is what mainly keeps me busy (I'm in grade 10 at CHSS). Other than that - homework, the Internet, reading, sleeping and, come November, writing a 50,000 word novel. Yes, the colours are amazing here. I've meaning to get out take some pictures of the colours.
And I'm writing some sort of Literary Fiction.

Hi Ashley - (Rogue Theif) and others (UEL, Kaaren, Shoegazer and julkat)
Glad you all made your way here - it is nice to have a small and diverse group. I am fascinated by people's connection to the County, and their sense of identity. Indeed we are island people with our own bizarre culture.
Welcome all.
Glad you found us Darlene- I tried to change my log in name, after I saw that everyone used a handle and not their real name - but also found it near impossible.
Thanks for the info on how to post - and hope that when the time comes it will be an easy (fast) process. :)

Hello all. :D
I've lived in Picton all my life, and am glad to see other people from the county going along with NaNoWriMo! I thought for sure no one else in the county had ever even heard of this site!
Can't wait till we kick off November, and I can't wait to read all of your writing once we've gotten started.
Just a little about me. I live in Picton, working full time and this is my first year with NaNoWriMo on this account. (I tried NaNoWriMo last year on a different account, and completely failed. Not this year, though! I'll stick it through!)
Nice to meet you all. :D

Hi there,
I'm also Prince Edward County and Other, just outside of Stirling, half-way between Madoc and Belleville or Marmora and Trenton. May I join your group?
I'm writing historical fiction. Should have gone contemporary since the research would have been minimal, but I'm committed now, or will be. (grins) Have a successful month, everyone.

I'm from Picton.
My NaNo history:
2002 - wishful thinking
2003 - failed miserably without long enough access to a computer
2004 - got my own computer and COMPLETED~!
2005 - bored of my plot and gave up "hey I already proved I can do it" year... bleh
2006 - my life totally.... exploded... I moved away from the county to live with my sister who needed her computer for university most of the time, and my idea... I wanted to take the novel more slowly and seriously than NaNo would allow.
2007 - I'm already working on 2 other novels, but this year will probably be easy....
I've dragged: My my little sister, another friend, and a friend overseas to participate in NaNoWriMo as well this year <3
I'm writing something easy... which is general fiction... possibility of all genres. In general I'm a dramatic-psychological-romance writer though. I have a feeling in the end my novel will lean mostly towards the 'Young Adult' reading category...
NaNoWriMo is hard if you go to school or have a job or aren't experienced at writing. A month ago I wrote 10,000 words in like 3 days before taking a hiatus from my writing (since I have bad wrists from using my computer too much) to save it up for November.
Personally I hate the county... but the air here is much nicer here...I've always lived close to the Picton Bay XD~~~

I'm not IN the County, but I grew up and lived there for 18 years, haha. I'm here and representing Hillier, cause someones got to do it!

^ I didn't even know what Hillier was until I knew someone that lived there...
(some county person I am, eh?)
Well in any case AM I THE ONLY ONE UPDATING MY WORD COUNT?
(Or possibly the only one crazy enough to be up past midnight writing?)
I hit my daily minimum at 3am because I procrastinated online. I guess that means I don't have to write anything else today if I don't want to?
I love how my characters have just poofed out of thin air, seemingly complete and actually DIMENSIONAL... this is easier than I thought.

Hey everybody!
It's Juli :)

This is my first year of NaNoWriMo, and I'm really excited! So far so good; 1725 words!
Tomorrow could be harder though.
Hang in there everybody!

Well, I haven't heard if I'm welcome here yet, but on the off chance I am, the first day went really well. Reached my goal in three hours. Soooo hard not to go back and fiddle with it. It's all I can do the keep my mouse from scrolling upwards. Old habits die hard, so a good exercise.
I see from the numbers everyone else here had a productive first day.
Have another great day y'all.

Hi Lorraine
Of course you are welcome -
I am here in Wellington, wondering hw the hell I update my word count. I have been all over the site looking and can't find any button or bar or anything.
Please, anyone, could you give me the idiots version of how to do this?
Also, for any and all who live in or near the County - we are meeting at the Bean Counter in Picton, onthe Main Street, on SUnday the 11th from 1 - 3 p.m.
For any of youwith laptops, greta, bring em. The rest of us will snarl, drink tons of coffee and scratch out words on paper.
I have met my minimum for each ay, and feel pretty good and easy, though I have no plot, but that is no problem, eh?

Hey Juli!!
Its Kaaren - so nice to see you here! ATTA GIRL!!
Making the time to be with the story is the hardest- seems like once you are there, the words do tend to follow.
I wish you all the best with this and hope to see you at the Bean on the 11th!

Welcome Lorraine
All are welcome and we hope to meet you on the 11th if you are able to come. I agree, I am a fiddler too!
I am up early today, Saturday, to write in the wee-er hours before the kids get up and start needing me, lol.
Happy writing!

Thanks for the welcome fellow wrimos.
Jennifer and Kaaren (did I spell your name correctly?)To update wordcount.....
Go to edit your profile
Click on Author info
About half-way down, you will see an empty line with something like 'word count" written beside it or under it.
Just fill in the number ....... and the cosmic secrecy of The Great Nano will take care of the code etc. It's instant and so simple, you'll say "duh" alot.
I'm afraid I can't make the meet and greet. Wish I'd known earlier, but I made other plans for next Sunday. Hope there will be a second meeting.
As a result of my being away for three days, I've upped my daily goal to 2000 or more to make up for it, so I'm adding more dialogue than I normally would. It seems to up the numbers. (grins)
Have a good write today, folks.
