Well, I've been waiting for geistbear to post some kind of introduction forum, but it's October 3rd and nothing has come up yet. I thought we could introduce ourselves a little and discuss what we're going to be writing for November (vaguely, or a genre would work too) and if anyone is interested in some write-ins somewhere in the quaint little town of Flagstaff. I know I was interested in going to a write-in last year, but I just couldn't make it.

So! Where are you all? Join me, haha.

Finally got around to checking the regional boards. I've gotten addicted to the dare thread instead; it's dangerous.

I'm totally up for write-ins! Strangely, Monday and Wednesday nights work well for me this year, though I suppose I could force Thursdays to work if I really needed to. Bookman's has its coffee shop open now, too. Maybe we can have our write-ins there again and get a caffiene fix simultaneously. :)

I was originally going to go with a sci-fi novel, but then realized just how strict an outline all the time travel would require. So, I've put that idea on hold and decided to go for a universe-hopping, dare-filled improvised fantasty...thing. I'm going to spend a lot of time developing my three main characters, and then just sort of throw them around insanely. It should be a nice change from last year, where the plot I used had been my baby for so long that I didn't really want to take dares.

King of the eyesores? Isn't that from a song by the Shins?

That sounds interesting. I am going to be working on a "realistic fantasy" (i.e. no magic or non-human creatures)... just humans, because I find them fascinating. I think we would get along splendidly. Hopefully more people will introduce themselves here. It would be nice to have a decent group this year!

Bookmans would be great. Mondays and Wednesdays work for me too, actually. I can get off of work at 5:00 and head on over. And it sure wouldn't hurt to have a caffeine fix, to be sure. There is a woman I know who is interested in write-ins as well (my elementary teacher, actually), she's nearly blind (we both live a little ways out Flagstaff). But I know she would love to be involved as well. She's a fantastic writer and wonderful person. So that's three of us!

Indeed, "king of the eyesores" was ripped from New Slang, by The Shins. Love them to pieces. The phrase seemed charming, fitting even, for me. Even considering the fact that I'm a girl ;) They mention "queen of the eyesores," but I like "king" more. Haha, why yes, I am completely normal!

I did not renew my ML status, I am still around and willing to meet up just realized if I want to complete NaNoWriMo the extra work for ML may hold me back. Just spread thin enough right now with other things. Good luck and best wishes to Intention as the ML this year.

Ack, I better get organizing then. Thanks for passing the torch on to me, geistbear. I hope I can organize some fun events throughout the months, but we'll see. I'll need all of your cooperation, if you'll give it to me!

Hi everyone!

I probably won't be joining the Flagstaff kick-off because I jumped on board the NaNo ML train and am pulling a group together for the Prescott area. Unfortunately, I haven't got a forum or regional listing yet due to that snarky slow server the NaNo gods installed. I've been assured everything should be up and spiffy soon. Meanwhile, I want to extend invites to any and all from the Prescott area to our kick-off meeting on Tuesday, October 30th at 6 pm at the Coffee Depot upstairs in the Firehouse Plaza on the corner of Granite and Goodwin in Prescott.

Intention, my secret closet lover with the hot signiture, I'll be at any event you throw for Nanowrimo this year as long as it isn't on Wednesday. Actually... anything after 5:00 I could potentially make it to.

I'm in charge of Flag High's Novelist Club, also, and we meet at Bookman's on Sundays at 2:00, so if anyone would like to join us, we pretty much grab some coffee then curl up in a corner somewhere and talk about what we're working on and do some fun excersizes and readings and such. When Nanowrimo starts we'll turn that into support-group time, so people are more than welcome to come and join!

I suppose my novel is realistic fantasy as well. As I suck at trying to explain things to people, I won't try that hard to describe the workings of it exactly. It revolves around a group of mercenaries who are going to attack the castle... to be horribly basic. ^^;

You should definitly organize the kick-off, Intention! =D

Hello quillandink! Good luck getting your region together : ) If all else fails, you can always come stop by and say hi us Flagstaff-ians!

Good day to you my secret (not so secret anymore) lover, Suncloud ;) Wednesday won't work for you? Not even later in the evening? It seems that Wednesday is one of the better days for me. But I could probably make Monday and Friday easy, after 5:00 PM. And Saturday and Sunday throughout the day. Tuesdays are horrible for me, and Poofiemus Unique confirmed that it's not a good day for her either (she'll be helping me put some of these write-ins/kick offs together)

Also, October 31 is a Wednesday. What is everyone's thoughts on having a kick off party the night before November 1, where we could discuss our stories with each other and get last minute advice/guidance and get excited for the midnight hour? We don't have to hang out until midnight, seeing that some of you guys are in school and need to wake up at an early hour, but we could get together in the evening for a couple of hours? Perhaps at Bookmans? I think that would really pump everyone up. Then we could have a write-in that Saturday, November 3, perhaps. Just a thought. : ) What does everyone have to say to that?

I'm from Prescott originally, and that's where my mom is. I'll have to let her know that there will actually be write-ins there this year! And if I go home for the weekends, I may very well drop in on you.

Saturday or Sunday (27th/28th) would be better for me for a kickoff party, but that is just my schedule. Another nice thing about those days is you may stand a better chance of attracting people from surrounding communities (ala Ash Fork, Williams, Camp Verde, etc) than a weekday.

Yay! The site and forums are back up! Sorry for the huge delay in me showing up, guys, but the nano site wouldn't load for me for weeks after they changed it. I had to change to a firefox browser. It still won't load on my IE.

So... we're having a shift in MLs, huh? Cool! I love new people with new ideas! I do still hold a position as co-ML for the flagstaff region, but I'm still fairly new myself and I totally welcome as many people who want to step up and help as will. I'd love to meet you guys some time and discuss ideas. Maybe it'll mean we get some more turn outs to those oh so empty write ins. You guys made me pout last year =P Me sitting all by myself at Bookman's. Haha.

Anyways, I ramble. Introductions. Yes.

I'm Steph. One of your co-MLs for the Flagstaff region. I'm absolutely insane, and love doing write ins for both the social and word-count boosting aspects. I'm a little crazy, and this year I'll be attempting something a little different than my usual fantasy novel. I'm taking a shot at comdey/romance. Haha. Yes. Anyways, I look forwards to all the insanity. As always, if any of you guys have any problems or questions or suggestions on how to herd cats, feel free to e-mail me using nano mail or on my normal account steph . marcellin @ gmail . com minus the spaces, of course.

My hours of availablility this year are pretty flexible. I can do anything after 3pm on any day except tuesdays.

Love you guys!

Ooooh! I had no idea you were a ML for Flagstaff! No one informed me of your presence D:! I had just assumed that Poofiemus would co-ML with me this year. We'll see how this works out, seeing that you have first dibs on ML since you were last year.

Bwehehe, I think we'll get along, seeing that our genres will probably interest one another (i.e. yours will probably interest me. Only purely insane people would like my story idea ;) But I digress).

And lastly, baaaw no more sitting at Bookmans by yourself. We have at least 4 committed people here, including me this year. We'll get some people together, I'm sure of it! I will contact you via gmail (mine is coldfooted @ gmail 8D, so you know I'm not some crazed lunatic. Er... not some 'random' crazed lunatic ^^) Talk with you soon!

I'm begining to think that this whole 3-MLs thing might actually work--this way, we can ensure that there is at least one of us at every write-in.

For anyone else reading these boards, Steph, Intention and I are finally all getting together on Monday and will therefore be setting dates for the kick-off party, and probably the other write-ins as well. :D Yay!

Yes! It's just like in The Dark Crystal, where, due to the fact that their world has three suns, all the dwellers consider three to be the most stable number in the universe. By extention, two is the most unstable.

Does this make us the Three Suns? :D

For what it's worth Steph, I was totally at bookman's with you every time. I think I went to more write-ins than you did, didn't I? ;)

Anyway -- best time for a kickoff party is a few days before, like I'd do it the weekend before. (mainly because weekdays are pretty awful for me to do anything, and I've heard we might have a very large group.)

Gee. Well. On October 5th of last year, I registered... on October 8th, I sprained my ACL and MCL. My loyal beloved Thinkpad suffered an unfortunate fate in the days that followed, involving an unstable bottle of Dos Equis and a TYL#3 or two. Into my keyboard drained my hopes of participating in 2006.

I'm in junior college, taking some introductory biology and spanish, as well as a couple of basket-weaving classes. Close your eyes. Imagine a bubbling well beneath your feet. Breathe in deeply, allowing the water to flow through your bones and out the top of your head... washing over your skin and taking away any discomfort or unpleasantness...

I think my course load can take it.
I am extremely motivationally-challenged.
We'll see what happens.

Awww, well I would love to see you at the kick-off party tomorrow and at the write-ins. You don't have to win to join us in our "merrymaking" (which is more like groaning over how insane and ridiculous we are), as long as you try, that's all that matters. And have fun :) I'm sorry last year was such a drag for you. Your experiences can only be more positive!

Ouch, thinkpad accidents are never fun! Is it doing better this time around?

Last year I put a 7-year-old PowerBook G3 through the "fun" of NaNoWriMo, and although it did live, that was only barely.
This year I'm ready to go with the new ThinkPad though, the keyboard of which is nothing short of amazing in comparison with some of Apple's recent attempts at professional laptop keyboards.

Man, that sucks! While both Steph and I suffered keyboard-related accidents during NaNo last year, it sounds like yours was the worst. :-/ Maaaaan. I got this scented oil from Peir 1 all over my computer, and it reacted with a lot of the plastic; I had to replace the keyboard because the space bar only worked half the time afterwards. And Steph's i-key went flying off into the oblivion at Bookman's during a write-in and was never recovered. Anyway, hopefully that makes you pre-disastered.

Haha, yeah that was awesome when my 'i' key flew off my keyboard and dissapeared behind some random furniture in Bookmans. It was never recovered and to this day I'm missing my 'i' key. I just type by pushing the little thingy where it used to be. It's pretty funny, actually. I can totally type without looking just by feeling where the hole is now. =P

You just gotta keep on truckin'!

Oh god, my red-neck roots are showing. Haha. =P

Hi all!

This'll be my first ever Nano - Weeeeee! Cookies to my roommate Steph for dragging my crazyness into this!

...And for my first trick I'm writing a rather depressing fantasy -more Weeeeee!! ... with some breaks of randomness in the form of crazy short stories I write at 3 in the morning... or when I'm drunk... or hyped on far too much caffiene... or when I get far too bored....

Ahem... So yeah Mon and Wed are good for me after 5pm, Thurs after noon's good too.

.... you know I have always wondered what happened to your "I" key Steph :D

Welcome to NaNo! Ah, so Steph made a convert of you. >:D Mwaaahaaahaa.

Hey, my first novel last year was a rather depressing fantasy, come to think of it. O.o I'm sure our plots are totally different, but I suppose depressing fantasies are as good a place to start as any. =P

Well, now you know what happened to the i Key. NaNoWriMo made it commit suicide.

Yes. Your abuse of it made it suicidal. Of course, this makes me wonder what level of insanity the i Keys of those who are writing first-person stories must go through...

See, this year I'm writing an insane fantasy--as in, one of my main characters decides to actually BE an omelette, and yet, comparitively, this is pretty mundane.

I'm doing a fantasy comedy this time around. Time screws up and picks some poor guy at random off the street to fix her mistake for her. It will be amazing fun, though it's pretty out of my comfort zone. That being angst and death. Lmao. I'm so depressing. Maybe that was why the I key killed itself.

See, I can't seem to keep my hands off comedy, even when things are supposed to be depressing. ^^; So I guess I'm embracing it this year.

Hey, my story involves the universe falling apart. Maybe we could do a crossover! *bricked*
