Was wondering if anyone would be interested in a pre-November get together in the Jackson area. Bring your story ideas and bounce ideas off other area Wrimos, discuss strategies for getting through November, etc.

I might be interested in getting together in the Jackson area, but right now my schedule is up in the air. Do you have any thoughts as to when you wanted to get together?

Except for Mondays and Saturdays, my schedule is completely open until October 19. After that I will be out-of-pocket pretty much until November 1. Was thinking either one of the local bookstores or a restaurant - doesn't matter which to me.

Sounds fun to me! I live in the Reservoir/Flowood area, but I work retail -- I'm off by 6 PM most nights, but that's a very tenuous "most", as I've just been moved into a newly-created position that nobody knows what to do with yet.

My vote is for the Borders @ Dogwood Festival Market, but I'm biased, since it's about three feet from my house. There's also always Cups...

Borders would be good - depends on how many we think are going to show up. My old writing group meets at Borders on Countyline Road and there isn't space for more than four or five to sit together. There are several restaurants out that way that might work, same for Cups depending on the size of the group.

Ooh, ooh! There's also Winner's Circle Park on Old Fannin on a day/evening that the weather is nice. There are several big picnic tables (can fit ten-twelve people each) and a miniature amphitheater with tiered seating in the middle.

Hi all,
I'm up for a get together if it's not too much of a science project. A couple years ago, I participated in the Birmingham group - the only requirement was that you stand and remove your hat and cease all conversation if "Sweet Home Alabama" happened to be played on the bookstore stereo. Other than that, it was pretty cool. Last year, didn't seem to be much going on in the MS area. I'm up for a drive to Jackson or Laurel/Hattiesburg to meet fellow wrimos, since it's probably not in the cards to see a gathering in the epicenter of the literary universe, the sweet city of Meridian, any time soon. Anyway, hail to the ink-stained wretches - count me in for a get together, meanwhile keep typing. Cheers, Ed.

It would have to be in the Jackson area for me as well but anywhere around here would be fine. Bookstores around here aren't generally set up to handle groups of more than about 3 or 4. Cups sounds good; any area restaurant, whatever. I'm pretty flexible. The only times I wouldn't be able to meet are Monday and Saturday nights.

A get together sounds great! I live in south Jackson, so I'll have to do quite a bit of driving no matter where you choose to meet. Our options are pretty limited on this side of town. Borders sounds good, but as others have already stated, space could potentially be an issue. Would it be possible to secure a date and find out exactly how many people would like to attend before choosing a venue?

I heard "Cups" and "Fondren" and thought "yes." :o)
There's plenty of space on the patio.

Hello everyone,

I am posting on here for one reason and one reason alone. After this past year's NaNoWriMo I became inspired by the effort which Seatle made in achieving the largest combined wordcount in the world (16,757,473 total combined words to be exact). It is that effort that has sparked my vision.

I say that we, the combined elite writers of Mississippi, ban together in combining our wordcounts for November '08 to defeat the superpower of Seatle!

All I need from you is your NaNo account name, an email adress, and a will to commit to the word count goals you set (whether that is 1 word, 50k to win, or whatever more). Please post that information on here so I may add you to the roster for a contribution in the pot of wordcounts.

Also, anyone who would like to help me in gathering other prospective WriMos within the state, or those that would compete for our state from the outside. Please, oh please give me their information as well. Any help will be appreciated in the utmost of fashions.

We can most definitely do this as the Mississippi NaNoWriMo Elite!
