Hello everyone! I can't believe all of our earlier posts were wiped. Oh well!!
This is your Southern ML checking in to see how many people are doing Nano this year in all of China. And because all of our previous information was lost, if you are in the China region and are planning on doing NaNo, please reply here (or email me at welkin.info@gmail.com) with your name, your location in China (city & Province), best times for you to do write-ins online/IRL and the best way for me to contact you.
Since I've the feeling we're a bit spread out this year, I am thinking we might have write-ins and word-wars online. We can do this through whatever IM system you all think is best. Right now though, I only have MSN (ID: marimeya_kaburagi@hotmail.com) and Yahoo Messenger (ID: akia_ly_the_great). Feel free to add me. If you all wish to use AOL or any other ones, let me know so I can get an account for myself set up.
Also, right now, I am the current ML for the Southern China region. If someone would like to take claim to the northern region, please make a bid for it here, and we'll all consider you. Otherwise, I will also help put together meet-ups for northern China.
Alright!!! 27 days and counting!

Yep. 50K. And most of it will be crap. But all of it will be hair-pulling, teeth-grinding, caffine-OD jittery fun! I've done this for several years now and have enjoyed every bit of it!
So you're in the China region? Which province/city? And are you able to access the internet for online write-ins or RL write-ins?
What we do: Everyday, starting November 1st, you write as much as you can on whatever you story you want to. You cannot have previously written or started writing this story, but you can sketch out characters, plots, etc. If we don't have real life write-ins, what we will do is as a group, try to meet online through MSN or the likes, and write together, on our own pieces. Trust me, you will get frustrated, and having others there to encourage you on or just to chat with while taking a break, or to share story bits and flops with is a lot of help, and is also a lot of fun.
So, please let me know where you currently are, if you have free moments and when they are (if you know), and any IM service you use online.
AND WELCOME TO THE INSA. . . erm, FUN!

I'm in Hunan. As far as IMing goes, I don't use any, but I have used PalTalk.
Good luck!

Hi Dave! Nice to meet you!!!
What exactly is PalTalk? Is it easy to use, like, can multipule users use it together? And would you be opposed to using an IM service if we did online meet-ups? (Not that you have to, but it's much more fun that way!)

Hello Jennifer! You were in this NaNo group last year, weren't you? The name is familiar. . .
As far as MSN is concerned, please add me to your list (it's in my first post on this topic). Are you going to be able to do online write-ins?

Yes, I was in this group last year. In fact this is my 8th year living in China and will be my third year doing Nanowrimo. I was really glad last year when China got its own group. I'm interested in doing online write-ins. How exaclty would that work? I added you onto my MSN. Mine is howardinchina@hotmail.com.

Wow! This is only my third year here!
How the online will work: We pick a day and time, and all who want to be in it come online and we just open up a group discussion on one of the IM services. Simple. Then, we can write. Occasionally, if you have somethign to say, or you wrote something funny or bad you want to share, just post it in the IM. It doesn't have the personal feel of a RL write-in, but it can still be fun, helpful and supportive.
And thanks for adding me! I just added you as well!

Hello Maria! Welcome to the herd! If you have nay questions just ask, and one of us vets will answer it for you, though there's not much to know apart from the basic concept of NaNoWriMo. I just recommend browsing the forums a bit (when this Drupal thing is fixed of course, unless you like waiting for webpages to move slower than the lines in Disneyland!!!) and check out what other people are doing.
And YAY for DLing MSN! My contact information is up top, and Jennifer has posted her info as well, so please add us when you can and drop a hello!

Hey, I'm new to NaNoWriMo. I'm glad to see there's a China group here! I'm currently living in Dongying, Shandong province. Not that much to do up here so I should have plenty of time to dedicate to the project. I have MSN, my contact email's joanne.mee21@hotmail.com
I'd never heard of this until a couple of weeks ago, but I love the concept. I can't wait to get started, it's killing me!

Hello Jo! Welcome to our little pod!!!!
LOL! I know how you feel how it's killing you, the wait. I have had my first novel I'm doing this year completely fleshed out since the weekend. I re-read it everyday, and tweak bits and pieces, but I'm DYING for October 31 midnight to get started!
Also, thank you for the MSN contact information! Several of us, including myself, have posted ours, so be sure to add them to your own list And if you have any questions, let me or any of the other vets here know (I think the vets are Snitchcat, Jennifer, maybe Dave and myself) and we'll try to answer them the best we can!
Once again, WELCOME!!!!

Hi! This is my first month in China. I'm in the city of Chengdu in the Sichuan province.
I've been doing Nano with the Montreal group for a while now, but the timing this year will mean I'll be in China this time! It actually didn't occur to me to check out the regional China groups until it was mentioned to me! So, if you feel like adding me to MSN, the address is tom_gameloft@hotmail.com.
My chinese friends think me insane for wanting to write 50k in one month. But then, so did my Canadian friends that weren't doing it.

Hello Tom! Welcome to the group! I almost went to Chengdu for National Holiday, but we ended up traveling eastern Guangdong all the way up to Xiamen instead. XP
I'll add you to my contact list on MSN. Several others here have posted their information in earlier posts to this thread - I recommend you add them.
Most everyone I know thinks I'm crazy as well for writing 50K in a month, but then again, they feel that writing is work. But hey, if it's fun for you, it's easy, right?

hey all!
like the above poster i'm in chengdu as well. this is my fourth year in china and my second attempt at participating in the nanowrimo. i had an unsuccessful attempt in 2005 when i wrote a grand total of about 100 words.
:)
i wasn't going to do it again but something inside me today said i should. so i'm here. feel free to IM me at voodikon@hotmail.com on MSN (actually i used meebo.com which is a web-based application that enables me to sign onto MSN, yahoo, AIM, and ICQ simultaneously--and no, i don't work for them; i just think their service is the bees' knees).

Hello!
Looks like a bunch of people in the Souther China region again; Shanny--i met you and German Emily last year at Starbucks, but was too flaky with my teaching schedule to meet up again. I hope that the So-China-ites might find another time or two to hang out and caffeinate and discuss writing and China and life!
I'm going to be living in Hong Kong this coming year, moving there on Nov. 1 or so, so i'll have a good 15 hours on a plane for SOLID WRITING--haha--we'll see how long before i fall asleep and write seven pages of tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
I'm in the States now, hanging out with the little old man and the little old woman who gave birth to me. Any So-China-ites need a fix of X American Brand shampoo or conditioner or the like? Drop me an email and I'll do my best :)
can't wait to talk more with my favorite forum friends on the whole website!--CHINA!

YAY!!! Welcome back!!! I was wondering if I'd ever hear from ya!!!
Glad to hear you'll be closeby in Hong Kong. I plan on going there a few times, so hopefully we can meet up with a couple of others, or you can come up here.
Are you just moving to HK or are you going to be teaching there? Also, do you have MSN? We'll all adding our MSN information so we can do "Online write-ins" this year (because of the distance...we need a country that's more the size of Rhode island!). Everyone - or almost everyone - has posted their MSN info above, so feel free to add everyone.
Welcome back!!! If I need anything from stateside, I'll let you know!! *^_^*

Hey, guys!
First year in China, third time here, and third time doing NaNo as well. I won in both 05 and 06, and plan entirely to win this year, too, even if homework crushes me into the ground.
Ah, let's see. My Chinese name is Ai Ke and my internet name is Pico (the Great!). I've got Trillian, and on that I pretty much use AIM and that's about it. I've got an MSN email, but not messenger (I guess I could install it, should need arise, though), and I've got a gmail. I'm pretty much available weekday afternoons and weekends.
La la la that's about it. Looking forward to NaNo! :D
