Staff member Tavia posted this announcement in some of the other Bay Area forums, but the word didn't reach here, so I'm copying directly from her posts:

Hello Bay-Area Wrimos,
NaNoWriMo Headquarters would like to let you know about three local NaNoWriMo events that you won’t want to miss! We hope to see all of you at all of them.
1. Pan-Bay Kick-off Party:
Kick off NaNoWriMo 2007 with other local participants at Olive Bar and Restaurant (here is a map!) in San Francisco on October 27, from 7 PM – 10 PM.
2. NaNoWriMo’s “Night of Writing Dangerously Write-a-thon”: You are all invited to our first annual Write-a-thon. The event will be held in a beautiful ballroom the Women’s Building in San Francisco on November 17 from 6 PM - Midnight. For more information about this event visit the Write-a-thon page.
3. Thank God It’s Over Party: Celebrate your newly written novels by attending our TGIO party! It will be held at Root Division—a gallery in San Francisco—on December 1 from 6 PM – 10 PM.
Again, we hope to see you all at any or all of these events!
Warm regards,
Tavia Stewart

Ian and I will be planning events in the South Bay, including a local meet and greet in late October and a midway party in November, but I really recommend also attending these Pan-Bay events if you can. They're always great parties. We'll have threads here to coordinate carpooling as the dates get closer.

Can we arrange carpools to the Kick Off party in this thread, or shall I make a new one?

I hate driving in S.F., so I would be very interested in carpooling.

I don't have a problem driving into the city, and I can take up to four other people - as long as someone is willing to be the navigator!
I live in San Jose, and I plan on meeting at a central location. (I'm thinking Barefoot Coffee Roasters, but I'm flexible as long as the location is not too far off the beaten path! :-) )

I can probably get myself there. :)

Speaking of the Write-A-Thon, I registered to volunteer for it, and got a hotel room at the Tropicana. It was extremely cheap, thanks to a bit of creative Googling... and despite the fact that I ended up effectively paying for two beds to get the price. Now, I don't mind paying 90 bucks a night for only one night- but it's a fact that I have a spare bed. So are there any folks that are planning to attend the Write-A-Thon, and need a place to rest their laurels afterwards for 45 bucks? It's a bit of a short notice, I admit, but I thought it'd be more prudent to offer it late than never. Email me please.

Will there be a contingent of South Bay-ers heading up to the TGIO party?
Just curious

I will be at the TGIO, though I can't do any carpooling because I'll already be up in SF for another event that day. I expect there will be enough South Bay-ers going to arrange a carpool or two (or three or...). I highly recommend the TGIO to anyone who is available that night. It's really worth making the trip (it's really not that far!) to join fellow novelists from around the bay in a collective sigh of relief and accomplishment (whatever your word count).
There should be more details about the event coming from headquarters sometime this week.
