Hi,
It feels good to be back.
Whew! is the site ever slow though.
I'm going to be writing a young adult novel set in the fantasy world I wrote about the last two NaNos. I always felt there'd be three books to come from it. However, what that third story is, I have no title, no plot, no clue. You know, the usual. :-)
Welcome all you Islandwriters yet to come!
Nancy
edit: hey! where's my signature I worked so hard on?

This is my first year! I'm Brittani, and I'm in a terrible year between high school and university. Taking a year off was a huge mistake, because I work in the nights (movie theatre) but do nothing in the day! Luckily, NaNoWriMo came into my life!
I may write the novel I'm currently working on, which is young adult with lots of terrible things happening to the people involved, or I may go off on a random, non-sensical tangent!

Hello all.
I'm going to have a plan this year going in. Last time I just jumped in no plan, no outline and the character's hair and eyes changed half way through the novel.
Good luck to everyone. I hope to write early each morning.

Hi John! Hi Brooklyn! Glad to see you decided to give it a try!
Virginia, the first year I did NaNo I got up an hour early every morning, stumbled down to the computer with a glass of juice in hand, and propped my eyelids up to write. It worked pretty well!
I don't know if I have any school-balancing advice, but I do have life-balancing advice: don't get behind in your word count any more than you can avoid. Trying to play catch-up sucks. Also, anything else you can let go for November, let it go. Record the tv shows you watch, give up reading, tell your friends you're out of town for the month. ;-) Prioritize!

Hey, folks, expatriate CBer writing from Toronto. Much to my shock, after all these years in Ontario (25, as of September past), I still feel like a Cape Bretoner. I figure we can use all the support we can get during this month of darkness. I'll have to lay in some Keiths to get me in the mood. Please don't reject me because I only visit every year or two.
Anyhow, this is my first NaNoWriMo, and hopefully it'll work out better than the turgid monstrosity written over eight years a decade or so ago. I'm leaning towards a CB setting for my novel, although I'm still in the what-old-ideas-that-I-never-did-anything-with-can-I-mine-for-this-mad-adventure stage. Heck, I only decided to go ahead with this two hours ago.
Best of luck to all. If anyone needs any Toronto-centric intell, I'll do what I can to help out.

George, you are very welcome here! We Capers have to stick together, especially when undertaking mad adventures!
I don't expect you'll make to any of our meetups, though. Sigh. ;-)

Hello all. Just moved to Sydney about two months ago from Newfoundland via Ontario. I was pretty happy to discover that there are other people crazy enough to do this around here. ^_^
This is my first nanowrimo. I wasn't even aware these things existed until yesterday. I was planning on starting a new novel on November 1st anyway, so this ties in really well. It will be a contemporary dark fantasy. Tentative title is "Static".
Anyway, quick question: are there any book clubs or writer's groups or anything like that in CBRM? I've tried to find some since I've been here, but everyone I ask responds with the same blank look. I miss hanging around with other writers/readers.

Hi Steph, I'm glad you're joining us!
I know there are book clubs around although I don't belong to any--I may be able to get some more information for you.
The only "in person" writer's group I know of currently is the one I belong to. ;-) We meet on the northside twice a month, just PM me if you'd like to know more about it. We're always happy to see new folks!
There's also an online group for writers on the island (I'm the owner/moderator--aren't you glad you posted here? haha). You can find it over at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/islandwriters/ and all writers in Cape Breton or other rural areas of NS are very welcome. Be sure to check it out!

Hi. I'm from Cape Breton. I don't know exactly what I'll be writing, or if I'll have the time or dedication to do so. But tommorow is November so I guess I'll try atleast. I didn't realize some of us were actually using our name names in our 'names'.
I was listening to alot of Sun Kil Moon at the time, that probably explains it.

Hey! Hope everybody's having a productive first day!
I would have liked to post in here earlier, but things have been pretty busy--unfortunately, so busy I haven't done any Nanowrimo prep! Nice to see some familiar people and some new ones on the forum.
I am working on a fantasy idea that I had a few years ago and never did anything with. I have no real planning done, which is terrifying, because I generally have pages and pages of character outlines and world-building done by now. *sigh*
Sherry, I'll see you tomorrow--is there a meet-up Saturday?
Cheers,
Krista

Hi everyone! I was out of town for most of October and couldn't get on the forums anyway, so that's my excuse for not having checked in here for weeks.
For all you newcomers: WELCOME to the fray!!! It's fun and frustrating, exhilarating and exhausting, silly and serious. It's a great thing and I hope you'll all throw yourselves into it full force. You won't be sorry.
Krista, I feel your pain. Since I was out of town, my prep is minimal this year too. I had a hesitant beginning yesterday and it didn't feel all that great but then, it wasn't terrible either.
Today, it has come back to me that the deal is to stay at my computer until I write a full quota of words (preferably enough to get me caught up) No Matter What. All doubts and worries must be put away for another day.
Sherry, I'm terribly jealous of your sig. Maybe that'll be my reward for getting my writing done today. I'll give myself time to come up with a fun graphic like you have!
Good luck everyone!
~ Nancy
