Here’s the schedule of November write-in meetings. I’ll also post them in our regional events calendar.

A write-in gets your writing out–out of the house, out of the same-old surroundings.. Even if you’re usually the solitary type, you’d be surprised at how motivating it is to work with other writers, pounding out those words together. You get to
-hear about fellow WriMos’ trials and triumphs
-ask for dares or ideas or commiseration when you’re stuck
-add characters based on random passers-by
-race others in word-count duels
-and above all, know that you’re not alone in this crazy run to 50k.

Myself, I used to think I could only write when I was alone, in perfect silence, in the perfect mood. Well, that didn’t happen often. My first NaNo write-ins helped free me from that mental stricture. Now I frequently get more done when I’m out of the house.

Last year we hopped around to different places to write. This year we’re going to establish a single base camp. It might not be as exciting, but then no one has to try to figure where to go each week.

So here’s the current lineup:

Sundays: 6 pm
Wednesdays: 6 pm
Roasterie, 6223 Brookside Blvd., Kansas City, MO

Roasterie Cafe
Mapquest to the Roasterie Cafe
Park in the lot behind or on the street in front. It’s open until 10 pm these two nights. (I usually stay late, but we MLs reserve the right to head home if no one shows up by 8 or 8:30.)

Midweek write-ins have brought out fewer of you wrimos; we’ll see if that changes with the single venue. We'd like it to be easy for you to come out for some NaNo camaraderie at least once a week.

Hope to see you at least a couple times come November!

What if the write-ins seem too far away?

Start one! You’re perfectly welcome–yea, encouraged, even–to start, say, a Northland write-in or a southern Overland Park meet-up. (A meet-up, btw, is when you get together to talk about your NaNo experience, without writing. We haven’t had them here, but other regions thrive on them, apparently.)

If you come up with a meeting idea, post it here at the forum:
-The Scheduled: If it’s a regular write-in--say, every Tuesday at the Zona Rosa Barnes & Noble, post it in this thread.
-The Spur-of-the-Moment: If you suddenly decide to write at your favorite library or coffee shop tomorrow night at 6pm, go ahead and start a new thread, to see if anyone else in interested.

You might want to look for
- Coffee (and/or other beverages and food), or at least a place that allows them (many libraries now do)
- Convenient seating for 5-10 people in one general area (though you''ll probably have fewer show up)
- Power outlets for laptops (although it hasn’t stopped us from meeting at bookstores that are stingy with their electrical power)
-Be sure to check the daily hours for your location.

Any questions? Just ask!

I'm in the Northland, and have far more free time in the daytime, when the children are at school, than in the evenings. How about Mondays and Fridays at the Panera Bread in Creekwood Commons at the corner of North Oak Trafficway and Engelwood Drive, say at 10 am? That's a new restaurant, and I haven't been in it yet. Whether I can make it to any specific ones depends a lot on exactly when my husband is traveling to and from India.

Hey there! I've got a small group gathering in Lee's Summit for write-ins on Mondays and Thursdays (probably around 6:30 p.m.) at Doozen's Coffee Shop. The owners have also kindly offered a 10 percent discount on those nights for Wrimos! So feel free to stop by if you're in the area. I've also got a facebook group set up for Lee's Summit (and surrounding area) Wrimos.

Cheers,
ditty1013/Sarah

Planning on hitting those Sunday write-ins. Even without a laptop my scribbled notes turned into hundreds of words once I sat down at the keyboard at home. Mostly, I just really enjoyed soaking up the encouragement and positive attitude that prevails at a write-in.

Calling all Northlanders!

I've got a green light from the management, and my Borders store would be more than happy to host a write-in. Per request from the very nice cafe people, we're looking at Thursday evenings.

Just to make it all tidy:

Thursdays: 5 pm
Borders, 8628 N Boardwalk Ave, KCMO 64151

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?latlongtype=internal&addtohistory=&...

We're open until ten pm on Thursdays, we've got a fantastic staff, and awesome coffee to fuel writerly impulses, plus a decent number of electrical outlets to keep laptops alive. If anyone feels up for it, PM me and I will make sure to have the comfy chairs reserved for NaNoers. Hope to see people there!

Just wondering, does your map point to where it's supposed to? It doesn't look like it's in what I'd call the "Northland", and it doesn't look like it's anywhere near Boardwalk.

I know MapQuest does weird things sometimes. Perhaps this map is closer?

PoetT suggested that I post this here as well.

I have write ins planned at the West Wyandotte Library every Thursday evening in November except Thanksgiving. Almost all of the write ins will be in Conference Room A. Except November 8th, when it will be in the Auditorium.

There are a limited amount of outlets but you are welcome to bring food and drink if you so desire.

We'll start at 7 PM and end around 8:30 - 8:45.

This is for everyone.

The address is:

1737 N. 82nd St.
Kansas City, Kansas 66112

I hope this will fit into some of your schedules.

I'll try to swing by one or two of these; I'll be dropping in sometime later though... eight-ish until closing time maybe (gotta wait until after the little one has gone to bed).

Hey, I know a guy that works at that Borders! Or at least, last time I talked to him he worked there. Maybe I'll show up for these.

Yeah, I meant to quote this in my last post...my bad.

This is the Borders off Barry Road over by Wal Mart, right? I know a guy that works at that one. I'd be interested in showing up to these.

Teri,
I'm shooting for both Sundays & Thursdays (glad to see the Roasterie's open 'til 10). I know, I've said this before, but this is a meaner and leaner Adam. I hope to see you there, too, Anne. The West Wyandotte's a nice place, but only meeting for an hour-and-a-half isn't quite worth the drive (sorry).

Thursdays is Lee's Summit or The Northland Border's, if not KCK. Which one? Or do you mean the Wednesday Roasterie?

Of course, any write-in could be made longer by just getting there early.

Early or on time. Lean. Mean. Let's see it, ZenFajita!

ah, PoetT,

leave it to you to keep me on target. Yes, I totally misremembered the mid-week Roasterie night. I had all sorts of plans to head on over there tonight after my daughter's orchestra concert. I would have been so confused at the meager turn-out (um. zero. counting me.) Not that confusing is a new state of mind for me.

Since it will be 8:30 p.m. or so when I'm free, I won't make it to Wyandotte West, either. So I'll see all the midtowners on Sunday!

~ Adam (yay! we can finally write!)

I think that the Sunday write-in is going to be my primary this year, though I am going to forcibly try to schedule at least an hour at the Wednesday night one. I failed to get there this week due to an obligation, but now that things are really rolling for November, I'm gonna get on track.

This is me being organized this year. Teri, I expect you to glare at me if I fail to remain on task.

KC Kansas side, repreSENT!
Haha, no really.
I'd like to do a Saturday(teen) write-in every week at either the Olathe Borders on Strang Line(by AMC 30) or the Books-a-Million at Legends... is anyone else game? I'd love to see some new faces, as well as the same old people from last year. I want to work harder to win this time! Yes!
Let me know if anyone can make it... I might even be able to work something out for tomorrow, despite the short notice.

Is 20 too old to join you young teens? =P

I live in Olathe so I'd be able to make the write-ins at the Borders - as long as it was during the day (and preferably not right in the middle of meal time/lunch). Saturday nights after 6pm are always busy for me.

Last Minute Impromptu Write In!

Tonight (That'd be Saturday, 3 November 2007), I'll be at the Starbucks on 39th street a couple blocks east of State Line (Not Bell, the next street further east), scribbling away from about 7pm or 7:30pm to closing -- which I think is 10pm or 11pm. I know of at LEAST one of you that lives a lot closer to that place than I do, and I'm walking, so c'mon!

I'll be getting there between 7 and 7½, and staying until they close, then walking the scary just-over-a-mile back to my place. Come! Join me! Together we shall rule the... er... coffeeshop? Hrm... novel? No, we already do that...

SweetNightshade, we'd love to have you along! I'm going to be at Borders today(probably) around three, although it won't be much of a write-in, because it's just gonna be my brother and me... but if you happen to be there, I'm a redhead and I'll probably be wearing a pink bandanna.
We'll probably be there for hours, so if you can make it up there this afternoon, we might see you there.

I'm still trying to decide whether to make next week's write-in at Olathe Borders or Legends Books-a-Million... is there anyone else in the area who has a preference?

My wife (leogrrrl) and I get back from our trip later today, so we're hoping that we'll be able to make it to the write in at the Englewood & N. Oak Panera Bread in the Northland this Monday morning. Look for us if you can get up that way!

Oh, good. I was hoping someone would be able to come. I have long, dark hair, in a pony-tail, and I'll be wearing a dark blue sweat suit, with white flowery thingies embroidered in the shoulders.

Unfortunately, no, sorry, Waffles.

I know it's slower, but we have plenty of KC wrimos who come with old-fashioned pen & paper to write-ins: jmedwards, delayra, once_elaine, and more. Then they type it in later, sometimes getting to do some more word-padding/filling in gaps/expanding word count.

I do hope you can come out to a write-in. We'd love to be able to encourage you in person! And you can have all the cookies or whatever we might have. (I had candy with me at the Roasterie last night, but some rice-krispie treats kept them hiding out in a bag for embarrassment.) And crumbs don't bother a pad of paper as much as a keyboard....
