Until the regular boards are back up and running, some questions for our very big and varied region to discuss:
- Is this your first year doing NaNoWriMo? If not, how many years have you participated/won?
- How did you first hear about NaNoWriMo?
- Where are you located? Do you plan to attend any in-person events (kick-off party, write-ins)?
- Do you have a story idea yet? What genre does it fall under?
- Will you write an outline (or do any other prep work) for your story, or will you figure out the plot as you write?
- Do you write regularly in months other than November?
- Do you have any questions or concerns about NaNoWriMo?
For me: I'm Soleta, co-ML for Fredericton. It's my second year doing NaNoWriMo, and I won last year. I have been trying to get into a regular habit of writing, and last year NaNoWriMo was a great way to kickstart a manuscript. I haven't kept up the writing as much as I'd hoped, but my aim this year with NaNo is going to be to try to integrate writing more into my life on a regular basis. I have a story idea for this year, and hope to take some time this month to work on an outline.
My biggest frustration last year was that, while I wrote a lot of words (100k, actually), I didn't finish the story - and it remains unfinished. So my aim this year is to finish my story in 50k (even if that means skimming over scenes or outlining chapters). As Chris Baty says in No Plot, No Problem: it's much easier to go back and fill in holes than it is to finish a story! My genre would be "other genres", as it's a melange of things, including memoir. (My topic last year was memoir.)
I hope to hear from you guys! This board has been a little quiet. Us East Coasters need to represent! XD

This is my first year with NaNoWriMo. I find about it after I did the Three Day Novel contest over the Labour Day weekend. If you are unfamiliar with this contest I would check it out. It's a great experince. The website is www.3daynovel.com. Anyway, I've made writing a career, well trying to anyway. I haven't published anything but i've won a couple of contests and last year I had a play in the Charlottetown fringe festival. Oh, by the way, I'm from PEI, living in the place where confederation was born. I'm planning on writing a western and I even have a title. Wolf Creek. I have a small outline, but i haven't plotted out all the chapters. All of that is in my head. I'm looking forward to November and the month of writing hell (Which I need right now). Good luck to you all and i hope you have lots of fun this November (And not too much pain suffering).

I'd forgotten about the Three Day Novel contest! I remember hearing about it last year and wanting to do it. Oh well, next year then! Congrats on your contest wins (and the play)! That's really, really awesome. I've submitted to a couple contests so far and will continue.
(I'm actually from PEI, and I'm going to be there this Christmas visiting family. I haven't been to the Island in a few years!)

Ooh, I totally forgot about the Three Day Novel contest! I learned about it last year and wanted to do it. Oh well, next year! Congrats on your contest wins (and wow about the play)! I've submitted to a couple of contests and will keep submitting, but nothing yet.
(I'm from PEI by the way. I'll be there this Christmas. I haven't been there in a few years!)

This is my first year with nanowrimo and I heard about it from a friend who suggested it to me I'm located on the upper end of New Brunswick, about two hours out of Fredericton. I'm currently trying to balance the competition and university and it's a bit busy, but fun nonetheless I work on my novel whenever I get a time. I guess you could call it a paranormal suspense novel, yeah, that sounds about right As for outlines, what outline? I just open up my word program and type, I never quiet know where I'm going with the story aside from a broad, general idea in my head. I am definitely a regular writer in months other than November and I have been since I was in my pre-teens. Good luck to all with the competition!
