Welcome to NaNo 2007! If you've been here before, welcome back, and if you're new (to NaNo or the area) welcome to our little slice of life! We're a pretty relaxed and spread out bunch so find a little circle of people near you and get cozy!

How do you find that local circle of yours? well....

As we all know, Northern VA is a huge area and with traffic being the way it is, not all of us can get to all of the meetups. Attendance is NOT required to any of the meets and this does include me (your ML!). It's perfectly fine to set up meets without the ML's approval or attendance.

Since this seemed to work so well last year, I'm setting up point of contacts again for certain areas, so if you would like to be the one to help arrange meets closer to your own home or work, let me know and I'll make it known!

Areas:
Arlington
Fairfax/Chantilly (PoC: Dust Bunny)
Alexandria
Woodbridge (PoC: Kamikaze Mission)
Centresville/Manassas/Gainesville (PoC: pcurran001)
Herndon/Reston
Sterling/Dulles (PoC: Soaringdragon42)
Leesburg
Vienna/Merrifield (PoC: Lcubed)
Winchester/Front Royal (PoC: Suiseiz)

I can do Woodbridge, but someone else should do Alexandria, since they aren't really next to each other. Alexandria is too high class for me, ha!

Also, I'll be in fairfax a lot, but maybe someone else will want to cover that since I don't actually live there.

A note from the Winchester/Front Royal and Beyond PoC:

A few of us (Susieiz, thelonephotographer & Dawneieio) from the Winchester/Front Royal and Beyond area met this evening and planned a Pre-Kick Off meet-up at the end of October, Saturday write-ins throughout the month of November and a December "thank God it's over" celebration. Please see thelonephotographer's post in Virginia:Elsewhere. I have copied and pasted the post in Northern Virginia as well. Please add your comments there so that we can introduce ourselves. In addition to the scheduled events, there will also be a few pop-meetups here and there for those who are unable to attend on Saturdays. We are so excited! Look forward to meeting everyone.

Will do, KM! I think Dust Bunny has claimed Fairfax, but I won't sign her name up for it till she tells me to :)

As soon as I figure out where the regional calendar has disappeared to, I'll get those dates set up.

If we don't get a calendar this year...I'll probably make a google one :)

She tells you to. :D

Seriously, though - I'm happy to be the POC for the Fairfax/Chantilly area (given that I'm on the side of Fairfax nearest Chantilly anyway).

And if folks are looking for good writer-friendly haunts, here's a link to a list my mom (wise in all things Internet) found for me. While free WiFi itself may be dangerously unhealthy for word counts, I think it's safe to guess that a lot of the places that offer it also offer places to sit, power outlets and tasty edible stuff (and don't forget caffeine).

Only 20 more days to wait!

Hey Dust Bunny,

If you're looking for more meeting places, there's two possibilities in the Sully shopping plaza. One I'd have to peek in and see if it was really workable-- it's called something like Java Joe's and it's new, and they're trying to build up some business so they might be into having caffeine-hungry writers descend on them. I'll check it out if you want and let you know if it seems suitable.

A couple doors down is Game Parlor, which has a bunch of tables in the back for people to game and hang out. They sell snacks and cold drinks and also allow people to bring in their own food, and they're used to people bringing laptops to plug in. My fiance's a manager there, so if you'd like, I could find out which nights are usually slower (I know Sundays in the late afternoon and evening are, at least). I'd say a good 30% or more of my NaNo novel last year got written there...I'd drop my guy at work, pick up sandwiches for our dinner, and go back to the store and write till they closed. They were very cool about my presence there.

Hi!
I'm new to NaNoWriMo, and at present i'm sort of intimidated by the size of the site, but i'm sure i'll get used to it soon!
I have been browsing and i am very excited to find that there are meetings not too far from where I live. I live around Fairfax/Vienna...which ever one is timed more convieniently is the one i will go to. I am still in school though so figuring out that mess will be interesting....But I hope that I will be able to attend some of them when November begins!

Hello!

I just signed up for my first year; I'm very excited. I've been dreaming in prose these last few days while I pondered my plans for November before taking the leap.

I live and work in Manassas and look forward to chatting with you all.

Who will be heading up the Arlington area?

And will there be someone near Clarendon?

Curious,

Thanks for the welcome. This is my first year with nanowrimo - just signed up today (9 Nov), so I am already behind. This journey looks somewhat painful, but I am sure it will rewarding in the end.
