Well, my NaNo is going to be a comedy / mystery; and as I was debating titles for it...again...I remembered that I had seen an adopt-a-title post somewhere. (It might've been in last year's forum.) But why not have one specifically for mysteries?

Here's my contribution: Eight Plus One = One

It would work for a mystery with people getting killed off right and left. (And any number instead of the "Eight" would work, depending on your book.)

Title: "Nine One One"

Nine dead, one murderer, one victim left. Will she live? Or, will she be the tenth victim? Or, will Detective Tim Rhodes arrive in time to save her?

Title: "The Tenth Victim"

Detective Tim Rhodes leads a crack team of FBI investigators on the trail of serial killer. With nine victims already, has Tim's missing daughter become the tenth victim?

Title: "86"

Detective Tim Rhodes hunts down a mad killer who scrawls "86" on each victim. Time believes the message means much more than the obvious. Then, he runs into the next victim an old classmate and mother to the daughter he didn't know he had until now.

Anilyb!

I have been trying to figure out a title for this year's novel. I am soooo adopting, borrowing, stealing (pick the one you want) 'Nine One One'. It fits perfectly into my novel idea! Thanks!

"Murder in Peace"

This was my original title for my story, a twisted version of "Rest in Peace". Up for grabs!

Ha! Jingle Hell! I'm not going to use it, but I love it SpyGirl.

A few contributions:

  • New Pair of Shoes (maybe for a story related to gambling debt?)
  • Knock Four Times (victim is has three visitors in a row before the person who does her/ him in?)
  • The Teddy Bear Saw It (semi-cozy title? perpetrator had to move a teddy bear to get at a safe, envelope, or victim and the teddy bear was smeared with some sort of evidence?)
  • With Cream and Sugar (smuggling story? someone using coffee or tea packaging to hide drugs or anything else?)
  • Thirty Days Aboard the Griffin (Victorian era? Someone vanishes during a forty-day cruise aboard the HMS Griffin and only the victim's travel journal of the first thirty days is found?)

Oh, good idea! I didn't even bother with a title last year. I was a blank on the subject and didn't want to spend time on a half dozen or less words!

Death in the Lions' Den: The Lions Den lodge is having a reunion to celebrate 20 years. Daniel becomes the first victim.

How to Steal Million: Five up and coming professionals form a secret club - How to Steal a Million - to forment ways to steal in the corporate world, but soon it becomes clear that someone wants to eliminate the potential competition.

The Cross Word Puzzle: Herbert Shumaker, widower and resident of Ocean View, Florida, spent every morning on his patio doing the Times crossword puzzle, until the morning he was found dead by the lady neighbor who couldn't stand him.

Ok, that's it. Free for the taking. [sigh} even though I want to keep a couple....

OK, I am SO taking this idea. Ive already got a plot, names of suspects and have renamed it to something a little more personal. This is gonna be GOOD!

for all intents and purposes - WRITING IS LIFE!

Oh, I'm glad I could help.

I've actually learned something from this little escapade .... never tried it exactly this way so maybe that's my problem.

I'd like to see what you come up with. Hope it gets you to the top.

if you're willing to steal there's this great line from a Madonna song (I think it was used for a James Bond movie) :

"Sigmund Freud, analyze this !"

I don't know, it must be the hybris that does it for me. Maybe as a title it would just be clumsy.

I definitely need help coming up with a title for mine. The last story I wrote went without a title for nearly a year...isn't that awful? My NaNo idea this year is (obviously) a mystery, with a little romance in the mix. It's about a P.I. who investigates a murder and falls for the victim's daughter...etc. etc. It's got a 1940's setting... any thoughts?

Thanks for the help!
