It would be fun to have weekly meetings again in the Tara in Amsterdam. So who would like to join and what day would you like the event to be.

I'm fine with pretty much any day, as long as it isn't on wednesday evening. And my boyfriend would prefer it if it wasn't on a tuesday (since we have agreed that that is our cleaning night, but it can be replaced to another night if need be).

Now that I've moved to Den Haag for both work and living it's going to be a bit harder for me to meet up in Amsterdam... I don't finish work until 6pm, so I wouldn't be there before 7.30 if I'm lucky :-(
So I fear it's going to be just the kickoff workshop with Lisa Friedman for me, and that's it.

Hello! I'd love to join you all for a weekly meetup! This is my first NaNoWriMo and I'm nervous and excited and all those other little fluttery things that go along with taking on what seems to be such a major project!
And me without an idea even!

So what day would be convenient for you Amanda? I'm a bit surprised that not more people have responded, seeing how large the group was last year. But let's just put it down to the forum being so slow. :)

Whoops! I've been off the forums for a while, but I'd surely like to come. I'm up for any day except tuesday and friday.

I guess that leaves us either Monday or Thurday then.

Any preferences?

Will it be the Tara?

And when shall we start?

ooo questions, questions!!!

In that case I suggest we stick with monday (which is the day we used last year as well).

So we'd meet up on the 5th, the 12th, the 19th and the 26th.

Ooooh, I'd love to come again!
It was great fun last year.

Mondays are perfect for me - I have to work on Thursday evenings.

I'll make a note on my calendar (which is reassuringly empty for the rest of November - apart from a week-long trip)!

I see quite a few familiar pseudonyms here, and I'm sure there will be familar faces Monday evenings at the Tara, but I'm afraid I've largely forgotten which go with which....

Anyone mind if an unfamiliar newbie face joins the crowd?

We can be unfamiliar faces together!
Really looking forward to this. Something good about Mondays anyway!

Folks, don't forget that the American Book Centre in Amsterdam is kicking off with a special (and free!) NaNo workshop on October 31st!

At 7:30 PM at the ABC Treehouse near Spui, yours truly and professional author Lisa Friedman will get you started with some useful writing advice, staunch encouragement and some nutritional suggestions that may help you not only complete NaNoWriMo, but also survive the month without getting scurvy.

I'm ever so sorry that I can't make it to the Treehouse, but not going to my fencing class is not a good idea, especially not during November (when I'll need all the movement/sports -or whatever the correct word is- I can get).

I'm free most Mondays so I think I will overcome my shyness and join you guys :) It'd be good to have some people to write with!

Great!

You're not the only shy one there, anyway. ;-)

(I suspect the level of shyness among NaNo-ers is higher than in the average population; we tend to overcome it by talking about wordcount and books)

Silly! Fantasy is always a popular genre, so don't worry on that front. My work is going to be fantastic reality. It's the history of a fantasy forum...

Hi,

I see that this forum hasn't been active for the last two weeks.
Anyway, I was wondering if there still is a meeting planned for amsterdam and if I can join in.

I'm looking forward to the coming month and would like to meet others that share the same interests (namely nanowrimo ;-)

Yup, the meetings are still in the planning, look a bit further back and you'll even find the dates.

It will be in the Tara every monday during November. We haven't discussed the times yet, but so far I'm planning to go there straight from work, meaning I'll be there around five and won't leave until nine or so. BUT I still have to discuss this with my boyfriend. I don't think he'll mind too much though.

I used to write fantasy a lot, this year will be more scifi I guess but as someone else said, there's always a lot of people writing fantasy :)

@Sahi, are you going (or is anyone else going) to have dinner somewhere in Amsterdam too, before/during the write-ins?

I probably will have some falafel (great place on de Munt, very close to the Tara) beforehand, at least some of the Mondays.
All-you-can-eat (and very tasty & healthy) for 3,50 or so!

There's food at the Tara as well, but it's not cheap and, as I remember, not really stunning in quality.
Not bad, just not worth paying for what it costs.
(besides, the air tends to be rather smoky there, which makes everything taste slightly of cigarettes)

Will any of the people coming to the Monday Tara meets be going to the workshop at the Treehouse this Wednesday?

Well, unfortunately I missed the Kick-off on Saturday, which I had meant to get to but ran out of time (my godson's christening was Sunday and there was simply too much to organize for the celebration).

So if I can manage it I'm going to try to make it down to the Treehouse, providing I can manage to get out of there before I turn into a pumpkin :-P

I'll probably just eat in the Tara, cause I love their steak and ale pie. (And I have no idea if I like falafel or not.)

Hiya! I'll be at the Tara every Monday, and also attending the ABC Treehouse event this Wednesday. Don't know how long it's going for, but I won't be staying too terribly long, as there are lots of Halloween costume parties that I'm going to on Wednesday.

See you all there!
