I'm interested in participating in write-ins and possibly other in-person activities. Does the Birmingham Group have a ML yet? If not, will somebody please volunteer? I can't--maxed out on volunteer literary leadership obligations--but I'd love to follow someone else's lead for a change. My Tuesdays are booked but I can usually manage other days or nights. I write full-time, well, as often as my fibromyalgia allows. Writing my second novel for this NaNo, a Grit(ty) Lit, aka a character-driven novel. Think Larry Brown, Dorothy Allison, Rick Bragg--but not quite that lyrical or polished yet--maybe one day. Agent hunting for novel #1.

Thanks,
----------

Hi Tycho,
I just stumbled across the term in the FAQ a couple of days ago:

"Regional Forums - The beauty of NaNoWriMo is that the forums allow you to connect with people all over the world who are taking on the challenge of writing a novel in a month. But you'll also find that there are people right in your area writing too and your Municipal Liaison (ML) is hard at work setting up parties, writing sessions and helping the locals find their way through the month. Sign up for your regional forum(s) and that will be the only one you see on your forum page and you'll even get Private Messages from your Municipal Liaison about get-togethers in your area occurring throughout the month."

Best,

Hey, y'all. Welcome to NaNo (or welcome back)!

I'm Holley and I've been the ML for B'ham since 2004. I've been out of touch lately and am only now checking in. I have emailed Erin to see if it's too late to be reinstated as ML. If someone else has already volunteered, they will be your ML. If no one else has, it'll be me.

We will definitely be having some get-togethers. There should be at least a few - Kick-Off around the end of October, something in the middle, and the TGIO maybe in early December. I'll let y'all know what I hear from Erin and if I'm to be the ML this year, I'll start a thread where we can plan our gatherings.

Soynut,

Thanks for stepping up. I look forward to participating if the drive's not too far. I live in Pell City, 30 miles east of the Century Plaza Shopping Center.

Hey, Janice. Wow, Pell City is further away than I'd thought.

Check out the thread I started (gatherings) and maybe let us know when and where would be good for you. We can meet wherever y'all want.

Holley,
Yeah, Pell City is Exit 158 off I-20 East. I only know where one of the places you mentioned is & I'd come the back roads to get there to miss traffic & because I'm slightly more familar with the roads than with the freeway in the over the mountain area. I'm looking at maps now & will post on the other board.

BTW, Thanks for being our ML ... I think many of us felt like we were bumping around in the dark ... in a country without a monarch. Yea, hooray, we have leadership!

Aww, thanks. I'm sorry I was so late in checking in this year. It really snuck up on me this time.

Hey, Josh. Welcome aboard! Nice to see some family! *winks

Looks you are pretty much all signed up already. You can affiliate with regions or designate a home region for yourself by going to "My NaNoWriMo" at the top there, then clicking on "My Regions" and choosing your regions. You can also select which of the billion forums you'd like to see when you come here, if you find all of them to be too annoying to scroll past.

Let me know what questions you have or if you have any problems. But it looks like you're already set to go. Now all you have to do is write a novel!
