Okay, I decided not to do the ancient Greek one. I realised it was going to take shed loads of research to do properly. And I know, we're only supposed to be writing madly, not editing. Yes, yes. But anyway, I found it all a bit daunting, so I've changed my mind!
I came up with another plot, out of the air and I'm going with that one. Has anyone else done the same?

Hell, no!
You're very brave to do that! I'm one of these annoying people who has been playing with my plot for months and actually saved it for NaNo rather than writing it in the summer! I'd kinda like to chuck it out and start over, especially when I keep reading all these great plots that other people are writing and think mine is kinda rubbish, but I'm just not brave enough to do it! Maybe next year... (I said the same thing last year!)

Not me, I've been mulling over my plot for a good while and I don't wanna just drop it quite yet ^_^

Kinda hard to change my plot, when it isn't even half formed!!
I really need to fix that...

Errr, no! I've started the research for my plot, and there's no way I could come up with a new plot and do the appropriate research in about three weeks. Plus, I've been looking forward to writing this novel for months :P
Good luck with the new plot though!

Heh. Yeah, I've been going to write this fantasy novel about angels and heaven and hell and all that, but it's based on the script I wrote for Script Frenzy and I haven't got access to the script (thereby losing a lot of information that I sort of need) at the moment... So, I'm writing a different story in stead - which I've got so many notes for it's not even funny. Hopefully it'll turn out alright... Just crossing my fingers I won't change my mind again.. And that the computer will start working properly again.. mhm.

My plot has changed itself on me in the first day of writing. Suddenly odd things started happening while I was typing and listening to Kate Rusby late last night, and now I haven't a clue what my plot is. I'm just going to have to keep writing to find out.
Suddenly I feel like a man who has broken up all the life boats for firewood because it's cold in these iceberg infested waters and I want to keep warm.

A similar thing has happened to me, I had a plot in mind, because I thought I'd be all prepared as this is my first time and I sat down tonight to start writing it and something went wrong between my brain and my hand because what I'm writing isn't what I'm thinking. Which is very odd. And slightly annoying. I've got nearly two thousand words written, and I've got no idea what's going on. My only hope is that my hand knows what it's doing seeing as it seems to be thinking for itself.
And there seems to be a lot of and's in that first sentence.

Don't worry Floss. I had a go at this in January last year. (having bought 'no plot no problem' in December and therefore missed november, but unweilling to wait most of a year.) My characters took over and did what they wanted to do quite early on, ignoring my wishes completely. Looking back now, with the advantage of knowing that I passed 50,000 words, I can admit that my characters wrote a better story than the one I originally had in mind. Go with the flow and don't worry too much. If your ideas are strong enough to start writing a story without consulting you, let them get on with it.
Hope that helps.

All the time I change my mind, but once the writing starts, its the characters that guide it. I see the plot as a guide that is somehow left behind as the thing develops!! Last year I had very little of one and changed it totally, this year, so far, we've stuck a bit more together, the plot, the characters and I....though it's early days and they may tie in a chair one day and write a whole chapter themselves leaving me to sort out the plot holes.

Maybe I am a bit unconventional is this aspect, but I don't really have a plot at the moment. I only decided to do NaNoWriMo in late october so I didn't have that long to prepare. I came up with a few characters with very basic outlines and I am about 3000 words in and i am sort of letting my characters do as they please with some interesting results....apparently the female protagonist is very bitchy and elitist, not at all how I imagined her before I started. I'm hoping this method can stretch to 50,000 words although I have never done this before so we will see where it leads.

Thanks guys, I was worried for a while. Now I'm just letting the pen do the work while worrying about not having all that much time to write. Damn my job and lazy work ethic!
