I'm curious: How many of us are into role playing games? Is the average writer into things like that? Can be said i'm into the stuff. Beisdes the basic console video games, I've been interested in the DnD type games, but sadly haven't had much participation in the games. Still, the few times I have played, while confusing, have been fun. :)

How about everyone else? Into role playing?

I wouldn't really say the average writer is into role playing games, since writers tend to be a rather diverse lot. ^_^

That said, I'm a bit of an rpg gamer myself. Mostly console rpgs (my current rpg obsession is slogging my way through Mother 3 in Japanese, which is turning out to be not quite as bad as I imagined ^_^), but I used to do some pen and paper stuff as well. I never really got into D&D itself, though. It wasn't that attractive to me. I was more into a non-commercial Final Fantasy inspired system that a friend introduced me to and to BESM (Big Eyes, Small Mouth... anime based, to go along with my anime obsession. ^_^; ).

Haven't done any pen and paper gaming since the end of my first try at college back in 2002, though, since I had to leave the group that I gamed with. >_<

I've been RP'ing for most of my adult life. I started with D&D and have gotten disgusted with trying to keep up with all the editions. Usually I roleplay freeform using D&D books and other rules as basic guidelines, but allowing the story and character interaction to be more important than the rules. I have moved around extensively so find it difficult to find a table top game and have gone almost exclusively to play by post or play by email type games.

At heart I am a gamer. So much so that I am a volunteer employee at one game store, since I am there running events enough anyway. As for what I play, every other Wednesday I play in a D&D hybrid game, and I normally run one every Sunday after the store closes, but for the month of November I am taking a break from running D&D and one of the other people is going to run an "All Flesh Must Be Eaten" game (zombie survival RPG).

Mother 3 "not quite as bad"?...BLASPHEMY! How can't the craziness of Mother (aka series of Earthbound) be considered bad? :o Eating burgers from the garbage can is of the highest entertainment!

No DnD in November? Must stink to know that National DnD Game Day is on the 3rd then. :(

^_^; Oops, I guess I didn't phrase that quite right. (I'm a huge fan of the Mother series, and Earthbound was actually my first rpg ever. ^_^;)

I didn't mean the game itself is "not quite as bad." It's a great game so far. What's not quite as bad as I expected was the challenge of trying to play the game in Japanese. I speak/read the language well enough to get through manga and light novels when I have a dictionary at hand (and I do amateur translation as well), but I'm still far from fluent, and there are some aspects of the way they display the text in the game that make it a little more difficult to understand than the average manga for me.

Correction... I am not running our Sunday D&D game through November. All Flesh Must Be Eaten will get me into a zombie writing mood anyhow. I already have Planet Chaos and Misty Mountain asking me if I will run sessions for this on the 3rd. ;)

I played a little bit of tabletop when I was living on the east coast. I played Exalted with some high school friends. When I moved out here, though, I pretty much just stuck to World of Warcraft and don't even play that right now because of how busy I am. :P But yeah, I love roleplaying.

I like D&D and FF but I don't have much time for it. I'm wondering if I'll be able to finish, I just wish I had more time.

Glad to hear Mother is enjoyed. Hard not to enjoy the crazy and oddball world. :D And I would imagine it would be difficult to read...as mentioned, it's oddball. But that you say it's in japanese scares me...it never made it to america? That seems like a sick joke, not bringing something grand like that here.

Unfortunately, it hasn't made it to the US, and from what everyone's heard, there are no plans to bring it over either. >_< (It's been out for about a year and a half now.)

Glad to hear Mother is enjoyed. it's a kooky series filled with wild and crazy stuff. Only makes sense that the translation doesn't make any sense. ;) It's too bad the creator has claimed #3 will be the very last game in the series...

...but what's this a hear about it being in japanese? It didn't come to USA? :o

I have memories of sitting on my Dad's lap and watching him play Meridian. Then around 5th grade, I started playing EverQuest, then EverQuest 2, then, predictably, World of Warcraft (Silvermoon server, woop woop!)

I love rpg! I may not be the best at them but they are really fun! Plus my old group might be starting up again, so I'm really excited to start playing again! I don't know about the rest of the world, but I for one, still love my DnD.
