We are now half way through November. How is everyone doing?

As you can probably tell, I've managed to push ahead by quite some way and have now set myself the goal of 70k!

Winchester or Soton? Personally I would prefer winchester.

I could do either 7pm winch or 8pm soton, depending which people prefer.

1.30 start, I've made a beautiful green sign saying 'NaNoWriMo' so look out for that (hopefully on the table by the DVD section) and I will try and look writer-ly, come and introduce yourself :)

Winchestonians - Sunday meet-up at the Discovery Centre.

Calling all Winch residents or people who can get to Winch!

I am proposing a 1.30 start meet-up at the cafe entrance to the Discovery Centre. This is to the right of the big entrance with all the steps and has a glass front. If you're late, don't worry. We'll try and bagsy the table in the DVD section, but have a look round for a big 'NaNoWriMo' sign on a table with people writing.

As well as computer access for the laptop-less, the library also gives us access to much needed caffeine and sugar.

alright guys. I am currently in panic mode. And why? Well, I start a new job tomorrow with southampton city archaeology unit and i'm scared i'm not going to have any time to write even on weekends because i'm going to be so exhausted! Right now, all I can think about is archaeology, so I've hit a slump...and a big one and I have no idea what to do about it!

Any ideas?

Day 4 word count and... you know the drill

Woo! Done my batch of words for the day! almost up to 2000 words! haha!

6,881 words in total. So right on target - huzzah! Also, I'm feeling brave enough to include an excerpt today! Here we go!:

He swallowed again, feeling the distinct thud of sheer horror being gulped down into the pit of his stomach. His legs wobbled and threatened to slow down, or not even work at all, but the big burly meat bag of hired muscle shoved Egbert’s shoulder to indicate for him to continue walking at a pace that would follow the sharply-dressed gentleman who was leading the pack. He did not want to. He wanted to give in to the feeling of nausea and flee to a bathroom somewhere in hope that perhaps he could crawl away to a bathroom somewhere and lock himself up in a cubicle and quietly pray that maybe this day would come to a far less-dramatic end. Please, oh please... he prayed to himself silently, droplets of sweat beginning to shimmer off the top of his brow, and an idle drip sliding down his cheek. His mouth was dry and his hands were clammy and he would have given anything to be out of this situation at all.

But there was no helping it. The gentleman led them onwards, turning a corner and walking down the final hallway. It looked similar to his own all-too-familiar hallway where the office was held. Pristine white marble floors, freshly polished, walls as clean and perfect as they could come, and two huge threatening mahogany wooden doors staring down at him, as if the doors leading to the entrance of hell. The only difference from the all-too familiar sight being nought but a single metal plaque nailed to the door with the writing of ‘Manager’s Office’. This was it. The end of the line. Game over. The end. Finish. Finito. Over.

A wash of faintness overcame Egbert and he wobbled again, almost this time succeeding in his almost-collapse. However, once more his less-than-favourable-guard grabbed him by the shoulders and propped the skinny twenty-something-year-old back up on his feet a final time. They approached the doors, slow like some sort of funeral march that had finally reached the cemetery at last. Egbert inhaled deeply, what would perhaps be his last breath, and decided to close his eyes as tight as he possibly could, using all manner of prayers and wishes and whispers and almost-tears to somehow change the inevitable. He held his breath, his ears pounding once more as they had done at the beginning of the day, his blood pumping deep and heavy in the darkness across his eyes. He felt the familiar feeling of the large brute’s hand upon his shoulder, and he waited for the forward shove, the feeling of being pushed into the office, waiting for the demon, or God, or whatever foul beast the head businessman who ran Cockles’ and Burst’s Perfumed Soap Company might be.

However, instead of a forward shove, towards those two threatening mahogany doors that stood almost as an entrance to another world, the shove was different. Instead, he found himself pushed to the side. The action taking Egbert by so much surprise that he stumbled over his feet and bumped into the smaller-gentleman with a blink, daring so much as to open his eyes and see just what had caused the disruption to his inevitable doom. Oddly enough, unlike the other hallways where the end resulted in the doors leading to the offices and only the offices, this one seemed to have a miniature alcove, just large enough for a wooden desk to be set in it and deep enough for a grey filing cabinet to be set behind it as well as a woman perched neatly upon a little wooden chair with a cigarette set firmly in the corner of her mouth lazily curling smoke up towards the ceiling.

Hi all

Up to 7500 now. I know it's not half as much as some of you fabulous lot out there though!

I must say, I'm pretty happy at just chipping away a bit each day, rather than tiring myself out by doing too much. It seems to be working.

Just broke the 4k mark and am feeling really happy about that. But am quite nervous about running out of steam later in the month. Was wondering if anyone fancied having a writing meet up at some point later on in the Giddy Bridge or anywhere in Southampton really for encouragment, inspiration, etc.?

Hi,

I just wondered who else is not British and/or will write his novel in a foreign language. Seeing that Southampton seems to have a lot of international students, I was thinking that I can't be the only one here.

I am German, but probably, my novel will be in English. I start to lose grip on my native languge here so it might be easier. however, the question of the language is going to remain open until 31.09 23:59. :)
