Hey all,

Do step in, flop into one of the bean bags, kick back your shoes and conjure up any food you want.

So where's everyone from? And any plans for November?

As for myself, I'm Chittz from Madras, 17 years old, and in my first year of college.

This is going to be my second year doing nano, and since I decided that after last year I absolutely could not be coherent trying to cram a novel into a month, am going for a full-fledged non sense novel this time. :D I've also got a college play to deal with during November, to make the month all the more interesting!

Here's to a crazy November!

Er, stupid question, but who is our ML? I just thought we'd know...

And yes, what are you all working on this year? I recognize some old faces from last time (Hello Chittz!).

All the best, everyone!

Hiya folks

I'd forgotten about Nanowrimo--till I got the mails. Great to see India's finally got itself a forum, and some of the familiar "faces" are trickling back, as are newbies

I haven't yet decided whether to do Nano this year--

Cheers

Hi,

Samar from Pune will try to be crazy just like you till the end :)

I have been watching NaNoWriMo not-so-closely from last two years but couldn't pick up the pen(or the keyboard ?) because of my exams appearing right in the month but this time.

Anyone's got a plot or atleast a thought ?

'Ello Samar!

Great to have you with us! :)

As for my novel, this time I've decided to wing it (as usual) but make things slightly difficult for myself by switching genres everyday. I'm not quite sure what mutation that idea will effect upon my plot, but we shall wait and see!

And what about you?

Hey guys,

November 1st is almost upon us!

So what preparations have you in mind?

Bought all the caffine available at the closest supermarket? Stocked up your computer with noveling music? Sent annoying roommates on a month long trip to Hawai? Planning on a secret cermony to call upon the great and mighty muses?

Going for a day off on nov 1to write from dawn to dusk? Going to start at one minute after midnight GMT?

How are YOU planning to greet this November?

I am planning to stock up on dark chocolate and am already catching up with my November writing to-do list so that I have fewer excuses to not write.

And I'm reading my notes on the Snowflake method so that I know how to keep my November effort on track.

Cheers

Ohno ohno ohno. My internet at home has conked off. What do I do? Help help help.

Ok, I am officially going crazy a few hours before NaNoWriMo. And do we start at midnight IST?

Well, its not essential for you to have the net to write. the website is only for you to interact with other frenzied writers and to update your word count :D

So you can just write in a normal word document and update your word count when you're net gets fixed!

And yes, I'll definitely be writing from midnight! [though I'm not quite sure what!] (Join me! :D)

Chittz

PS: I'm kinda peaking on excitement at the moment. :D

But how am I going to do last minute frantic research on Wiki or Google something I desperately need to know immediately?

And what if I need (which I will) mind altering occupying activities which are available only on the net?

Sob sob. Guess I'll have to just use my huge music collection. Sob sob.

Chittz, I started off all serious at Nano, but realised soon that I will never get around to writing anything that way. So i am just going with the flow. I love this thread. I have been to many, but this one seems fun. I have had a short story published by Penguin India in their humor compiltaion, India Smiles. But this stuff is from scratch. Here is to one crazy November!

Hey,

great to hear from you! :)

I compromised a lot on my coherence last year, am going for the next step this year, with no planned coherence :D Anyway, sounds like you're having fun with your writing! I love that feeling when the plot and characters start to surprise you..

And thats great to hear about the thread.. I just wish all the other silent people in here will speak up :)

Yep, looking forward to this crazy month! :)

Hi,
It feels very real particularly the food bit. I would like to gorge on all the festive foods without a thought to the 'unhealthy' disapproving looks of good doctors. However, after finishing the meal I would like to know how does one upload one's work?

Hi Lekhabra,

Wouldn't we all love to do the same! All food that you like will be disapproved of by the 'good doctors'!

You don't need to upload your work to the site. You simply need to update the word count box. There is also a copy-paste validator (which has been disabled temporarily) which will verify your word count automatically.

To get to these features, click on "Edit Profile" at the top right hand corner of any NaNo page. When the profile page opens for editing, go to the "Author Info" tab. There you will see the box for entering your wordcount manually.

To find your own wordcount, you can use the feature in MS Word (select text and then go to Toos -> Word count).

Hope this helps....

1 day, 1500 words and my inner editor is already groaning. He's just pleading to be let out.

"Please please, just go back to the previous page, at least the previous paragraph. All I'm asking you to do is to take a look at it. This kind of inhumane mass murder, this genocide of the English language and story plot is to go against everything you've ever stood for. Listen to reason."

I'm doing my best to not wilt and to stuff him back in. I gave him the rest of the month off, but he insists on working from home and while on vacation. He's such a workaholic.

Hi All,

its really making me mad now...I mean I could not write y'day , but decided on the main plot , characters. location ..blah blah ..
all night i have been dreaming of writing and word counts ..and today when I sat down writing , its coming so easily ..though at this moment I am trying to keep my grammar and sequence in tact ..I know i have to throw it if I lag behind in a couple of weeks ...
I am in office and guess what I am doing ..writing ..what else!!

I thought of writing a book of short stories--a collection of love stories to be precise and for that I jotted down few idea....and one of the stories had a potential of becoming a full novel .. 1 month is the exact time I require ..coz if its more than that ..I'll loose track ..

enjoy your writing ..good luck to all!!

Great going, Preeti! I am sure that you will be able to keep the pace up all through. As for grammar and sequence, sure they are important, but not as important as getting it all out first!

As for writing in the office... guess what most of us are doing? ;) ;)

-Good luck and keep plotting!

Hi
Many thanks. I was able to figure it out and upload my work. Now trying to make up for the lost time by typing at break neck speed. If nothing else this will improve my typing speed. Wish some software is invented that immediately translates into the written word without having to type. Then maybe I can hope to meet the 50,000 words deadline.
