Salam fellow writers. I have a confession to make, I am not in Egypt... Please don't kick me out! I am living in Jordan and we don't have our own group! I used to live in Egypt and I went to AUC for my Masters degree, so I felt more comfortable joining my neighbors than somewhere else in the globe.

My novel idea is a based on my experiences living in Jordan as an expatriate American Muslimah. I have developed a character and her family and hope to put into words many of the odd experiences that myself and other American Muslims have had living here in Jordan. I could do a similar novel about my experiences in Egypt, but that will be for another time!

I am interested in hearing about the stories coming out of the Middle East. Looking forward to the challenge. Salam, Azomama

Hi azomama,
I'm a newbie, so I don't want to say yay or nay. I personally don't have a problem with it, but I don't know what the proper etiquette is in this case.

I'm a German expat and have lived in Cairo for 5 years now. However, I think any connection to the Middle East my story might be having, is a desert setting. Maybe. I am playing around with plot ideas at the moment.

Salaam, Cathy

Cathy,

I love your user name. I can just see a Hatshepsut statue with a cat head on it for some reason. Ha.

Well, InshAllah this will be a useful group. This is my first time as well. I just found one Jordanian doing a search and there was one in Syria who contacted me. Maybe there should be a general Middle East group? Well, I don't know much about how they organize these things.

Let's keep in contact, InshAllah. Salam, Azomama

I am not an egyptian too. I come from Yemen. I didn't even visit Egypt in my whole life. But as azomama said, we too don't have our own group (I might even be the only yemeni here), so I joined this group cuz it is an arabic group. I live in Germany, Cathy :-)
I am a newbie too. I don't know yet what I'll be writing (still 11 days to think, though). I am fluent in both english and german, but I plan to write in Arabic. Depending on how much I need to reach the wordcount per day, maybe i'll work at the same time on a german version of my arabic work. It might be a translation of some kind, or a different version of the story - I didn't decide yet. My plans are to reach the 50K with the arabic novel, and if I have enough time left, I'll try to work as much as possible on the german version, but not necessarily to 50K.
Sounds good? Let's see what November brings. Maybe I won't even reach the 50K...

Bravo, Arabic writers. There are so few good writers in Arabic to encourage READERS in the Arab World. My daughter will bring a book with her to school (Jordan) to read in the slow times and the other girls are like, "What are you doing? Reading? How boring!" They aren't encouraged at all to love books and reading. Only the half Arab and half American kids I know are really into it and that is surely the American interest. Which is surely a pity knowing the Islamic encouragement to READ and seek knowledge. InshAllah khair. Azomama

I know! I went through the same thing during school and now my sister does. My mom is American and taught us all to love reading. Its such a shame because Arabic is such a beautiful language. :(

I'm an American expat in Cairo, new to NaNoWriMo and Egypt. My novel is set back in the States and in a totally different environment. I'm too new here to write about Egypt!

Nice to "see" you all here.
